Could somebody please clarify the following.

When the leave year ends in March I know JPA etc will automatically carry leave over (15 days I think it is).

If I have say 25 days to use up now can I put in for 10 days leave in August and have it taken of this present years leave quota, still allowing me to carry days over.

Busy where I am, gapped post etc and I am trying not to loose any days but carry fwd my entitlement and have some down time when it suits me and the section.

Appreciate any advice offered.

You can't carry over more without applying to do so.

If you put leave in for Aug it would come from next year's leave

Just for info:

I carried over 10 days last year.
Checked my leave balance got 18 days leave left.
Posted in 3 weeks and my Chf Clk has said that JPA has flagged up that I carried over 10 days and that you need to use them before you get posted as they will be deleted from the system on JPA.

How can they prove that you haven't already used said 10 days prior to your posting? Unless your leave application specifies that you are taking leave from your ILA(2009) not ILA(2010) then they are stealing your leave.

Ohhhh hang on, it just says ILA. So that'd be a number some bloke has on a spreadsheet and is just dicking you about with...

Off Topic I know but it's a pointless bit of made up on the spot policy with no real thought gone into it (in my opinion)

That wont work - it will deduct 10 days from your 11/12 entitlement.

If you have a case to carry the leave forward then you can apply to the Stn Cdr to have this carried forward. However, be warned...

It would have to go through your Flt & Sqn Cdr for endorsement. The MOD has signed up to the Working Time Directive, whereby they have to explain why someone hasnt taken the minimum 28 days per year that the law stipulates. My OC PSF is currently starting to prepare the stats as my unit's CO will not sign a carry forward chit unless someone has uber-exceptional circumstances (such as a short-notice OOA towards the end of the leave year) - busy and gapping would not cut any ice here.

If your Flt Cdr & Sqn Cdr are prepared to put their heads on the chopping block for failing to manage you and your leave for a whole year, then you may have a chance - personally, I would think that when it comes down to it, you'll be told to take 2 weeks over the next two months to get you down to the 15, which will automatically be carried forward. With Kinloss & Cottesmore shutting, I would imagine your manpower issue will be a thing of the past next year anyway.

The quick answer is you can't carry over more than 15 days because you have more than enough opportunity to use your 10 days before 31 Mar 11.

If you take leave on or after 01 Apr 11 it comes off next years allowance. Your 15 days from this year will be automatically added to 11/12 allowance on 01 Apr 11.

As an aside do you still get 28 days plus 4x 48 hrs. Do you still have to put leave in for the sat and sun if you want a long weekend.

Nope we now get 38 days leave which includes public holidays but does not include weekends (or shift standown for shifties). So a long weekend from Friday-Monday (inclusive) is 2 days off your Individual Leave Allowance.

When JPA entered Service, there was great store put on the fact that you didn't have to submit leave for the weekends (unless you wanted your food costs back). This did not take into account shift workers... one lad submitted an absence request for a Sunday to attend a christening (or the like) and as it was a Sunday, JPA processed it without line manager approval. So bloke is happy he had his leave approved, but his line manager has no idea he's not going to be there on Sunday for his shift... just as well they spoke to each other.

This has, I believe, been addressed in one of the plethora of JPA updates that are now allowing this web-based application to run at ZX-Spectrum like speeds...

So I had a look at AFRS 06...

Turns out that a Cpl, signed on to 22 and having completed 14 years service at the time of redundancy would get 21 months pay as their lump sum.

£58k. Nice.
