I think you have been duped by the stories of sunshine tours buddy. If they still had a volunteer list it would be very short.

From what I gather (very reliable source!!!) if you like helpdesk and civvies and living with the army you will have a whale of a time.
Plus get a loan berfore you go cos its expensive.

I have done 2 tours of cyprus, one and a half at epi and 2 yrs at akrotiri, both before the pongos came in and ruined it (when will the MOD learn that tri svc doenst work) and also as both married and single. As long as you can put up with the army thinking they can run everything by shouting loudly at people then you will be ok. 12su as it will always be known to me was a superb posting, loved every minute and i would go back to cyprus (akrotiri only) tomorrow. As a singly it was my best tour ever, and also very good as a married tour. Sports very good, especially the water variety (perverts keep your comments to yourselves). So if you like awesome weather, cheap beer, duty free cars, fanny central in the summer in limassol then you will have a great time. All people will tell you any posting is what you make it, go there with an open mind, enjoy it and come back with a great suntan. Have fun mate.:PDT_Xtremez_28:

Got back from Cyprus 5 months ago, it’s not as bad as some people would have you believe. Yes it's mostly Army run now but there are still plenty of positives, the weather, quite a bit cheaper than UK to eat out, female Scandinavian tourists (I like them the best), and shorter working hours if you’re a day worker, you just need to make the most of it.

On the money side I found that the LOA more than covered any extra expenses, and if you do your big shopping trips over the north and not in the Naafi it's cheaper than the UK.

beaten to most of that by peanutphil, but I'd go back to Ay Nik as well. (did Akrotiri 1st time round and Ay Nik last time)

Sean, I'm at Epi at the minute. Yes it is a bit armyfied, compulsory PT etc, but it is a good posting. Lots of things to do, especially if you are a day worker, as you get most afternoons off. Cost of living is relatively cheap, compared to the UK, plus the LOA doesn't go amiss. If you want more specific info, PM me

Is there another Cyprus?

Is there another Cyprus?

Some people love it especially those with kids(although mine get bored very easily), and the singlies like the summer but it is changing a lot

except it is mostly civvie run especially all the DII IT BT side of things. You will probly find yourself on the end of a phone.

Its gales at the minutebut was 22 the other day, it is not cheaper than the UK to eat out(cheaper to drink out maybe!!) when you add the exchange rate into it, in fact we have found it a lot more expensive and the choice is poorer. If you have kids they will love eating sausage and chips all the time. He is right about the scandanavian tourists though and lots of other nationalities besides!!

There is always talk of them changing the hours. 6:45 till 16:30 is a long day (monday) most things shut wednesday afternoon and Sunday

again they are reviewing LOA at the minute i believe, and the Euro arrives next year, so things are expected to go up again.
You will not be getting your main shopping from the north as this is a good few hours drive from Epi and petorl is not that cheap........

Dont get me wrong if you need any more info let me know but be prepared for being lowest of the low again unless you are a FS!!
Oh yes there is rumours of us going into CS95, and they are introducing pay as you eat, but they are doing up the houses ...slowly... so will get a nice house if you accompanied (but wont be cheap)
