Well the mighty Potters continue their march in the Europa Cup along with Spurs, Fulham and Championship side Brum. Yet all the 'top' Scottish side get well and truely dumped out.

The question I have to ask my fellow goaters is this;

It has been rumoured on a number of occasions that the top Scottish sides should join the Premiership as the other teams in their top flight are not good enough. Given these recent results are the likes of Celtic and Rangers actually good enough to be in the Premiership or are they closer to teams in the Championship?

IMHO I think you are doing a disservice to the teams in the championship. Celtic and rangers are now on a par with clubs in the old 3rd Div or 1st dub as it's now called and the remainder of the clubs would struggle in Div 4/2nd Div.

A lot of championship clubs have had premier league experience in the past few years and it is a really hard division to get of once you are regards from the premier league.

Jockish football is a joke. Years of big fish in little pond syndrome and the usual sad sectarian nonsense has taken its toll.

It would be interesting to put the two top teams from the Sunday Pub League into the championship. The fans of both SPL teams have a mistaken belief in the quality of their teams and harbour ambitions that they are well matched with the upper end teams in the premiership. It would be a great experiment and there is no certainty that they would still be in the championship at the end of the season. The debate is rather would they have the resources to hold station or simply drop down a level. Given the perilous financial state of footy north of the border promotion is probably beyond them and they don't have the money muscle to buy players with premiership levels of quality. It will never happen though, they won't move, why risk winning no trophies, finishing lower than second and playing more than 4 big effort games a year.

No, I say bring the top 3 Scottish clubs in (is there another beyond Celtic/Rangers?) - that way we know at the start of the season who will be relegated.
Oh the joy in the office...:PDT_Xtremez_30:

I'm a jock, from Glasgow no less, and I reckon if they want to play in the English leagues then let them. They should start from the bottom though and work their way up. If Celtic and Rangers went straight into the Premiership then you have two teams who've fought to be there not able to take a place. It's arrogance in the extreme to demand a place, which is almost what they were doing two years ago. It tells a story when the Scottish National team can hardly find a player to pick from the Premiership doesn't it?

The money from TV has altered the balance firmly in favour of the English teams. Even small town clubs like Wigan and Cardiff can afford better players and pay them more.

As long as this situation exists then Scottish clubs can't hope to compete with English clubs in the top two leagues.

Even if somehow they were permitted to play in the English League then they should have to join at the bottom. Parachuting them into any other level wouldn't be fair and the English clubs quite rightly wouldn't put up with it.

Having said all that the teams that put both Celtic & Rangers out last night didn't have any financial advantage. A disgrace by both sets of players and management.

(I'm a Rangers season ticket holder)
