Can someone point me to (or quote) any current regs that exist relating to chewing gum while on duty?

I don't think there is such a thing, unless its in your local SSOs....surely people have better things to worry about than that?

I seem to remember it was classed as eating..to be done in private rooms or in a Mess.

True multitasking would be having a sh1t whilst doing those things!

I don't think it's possible to drain your spuds and lay some cable at the exact same time...sensory overload.

Neither, but chain of command have stated it's an offence under military law.

I was just curious about which specific law it is. I'll be asking chain of command on Monday anyway.
I think you'll find you get chewing gum in ration packs, so how the hell can it be against military law. Utter load of bollox. It all comes down to discretion, you wouldn't chew on parade etc but whilst working in a bay/office I can't see a problem as long as it goes in the bin at the end and not stuck under tables or on the floor.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he must work at an Army unit.

There was a blanket ban in place in MechTF when I was there.

It was brought in by the management after constant complaints from the cleaners about having to scrape chewing gum out of carpet, off the bottom of tables and picking it out of the urinals.

HTB

That would be a local ban though, not the same as claiming it to be against military law...

That would have been my reaction, either that or keep on chewing it until some tw@t lays a charge on you then when in front of the zobbit who's job it is to hear the charge against you politely ask to see the regulations that forbid the chewing of said gum. If no such rule exists then it's case dismissed and probably a bit of a bollocking for the tw@t who wasted the time of said zobbit.

I'm curious to see which part of MAFL refers to chewing gum! I am, however, aware of several Units (LEU was one until recently) who's Routine Orders forbade chewing gum. In fact a regular contributor to this forum (now retired) took joy in placing those requisite extracts from aforementioned orders on SHQ doors!

Any chance of putting us out of our suspense, or is this destined to be another story without an ending?

I used discreetly to chew gum on duty so as not to chain smoke ("flash the ash!"), which the culture required at the time. Later, I found it helped concentration in exams.
