Just a general question relating to Chf Clk advice.

How much do they/should they know regarding discharge matters - eg pension etc (as in Termination not errrr discharge....)

Only asking as a mate went to see his Chf Clk and came away rather non the wiser as he was basically told to contact SPVA (not sure if correct acronym) and Resetlement Clerk regarding all termination benefits (which is to be expected I guess).

So as I say just wondering how much they actually get taught (if they do) or if they don't is it just experience they have gained 'over the years'

His query was specific to possible medical discharge by the way.

Cheers

These will tell about resettlement (courses), little else.

We are not taught anything wrt pension, resettlement and medical discharges.

The RRA is the SME when it comes to resettlement. We're not medics and can't comment on medical discharges and, in the past, we used to be able to call PMA to discuss pensions. Now that's all been taken over by the JPAC.

I hate it but, sometimes, we are simply signposters!

Chf Clk is right, we don't get taught Pension stuff etc and SPVA are the specialists here. I've lost count of the amount of times I've been called for 'specialist' advice and pointed the caller in the direction of my SAC's because they do these things on a regular basis!

Your mate might want to try these people though.

I'm not sure about other scribblies on here, but I really think our forte is staffing excellent casework. Be that water tight PT cases or DWR deferrment requests or an RAF Ben Fund application for a guy/gal who has a terminally ill child. Some of the cases are heart breaking but when you do what you can to help these unfortunate people as much as you can.........well it's simply the best part of my job.
