As a new member I don't know whether or not his has been brought up before but the last I heard they were going to come in "Now" after the Army came on line JPA wise. However not heard a dickie bird since some articles in RAF Spews last year. Do any specialists have any knowledge out there, not a big thing but means I can save a couple of grand a year in fees. Cheers

I've a copy of a facts sheet from the Service Families Task Force that is about 12 months old which gives details of the CC Vouchers. It says that you can benefit if:

You have Childcare costs of > £175.00/week for 1 child or > £300/week for 2.

or

You receive tax credits below £545.00 per year.

or

You pay the higher rate of tax.

However, "the requirement to enable a salary sacrifice scheme on JPA will not be met until after Spring 2007."

Not heard anything since then but try looking on www.rafcom.co.uk, they're usually switched on to things like this.

Thanks for the gen, however, as you said there was lot of talk about it last year which quietened once they said they would come on line Spring 07. Spring has Sprung yet nobody is saying anything more.

The Employer, the MOD, has to set up the scheme and costs incurred are offset by the employer not paying their part of National Insurance on the Salary Sacrifice about the same as you pay (ish). There are firms out there who will set up the schemes for other employers and they only charge employers the money they would save, ie a no cost option for the employer.

At the moment I've got cheap child care on Camp but a posting this summer will mean I will pay a lot more when I have to use a civi nursery, from £27 a day to £42 a day, and whilst I know I choose to have a kid and pay for it's upbringing, it seems a shame that a government scheme there to help me and many others cannot be set up by a government department for it's emplyees. This is not a new scheme it came in Apr 2005 so I have already missed out on about 5 grand which I will never see, but it would be nice to have to offset my final year of fees.

Any other information out there about when JPA will allow such a scheme to operate, Stephen Twigg (some kind of Defence Minister) said Autumn 07 in parliament, is this going to slide further following the successful transition to JPA for the Army?

Sorry, think I broke another k/board through snorting my vodka and lemonade all over it. Successful = paid troops. From here, it's not looking that good.

If you can find your way to the SVPA (used to be AFPAA) website, I think that you will find that Child Care Vouchers are going to be included in R5. R1 was RAF, R2 was RN, R3 was Army/RAF Reserves, R4 is, amongst others a lot to do with NIRE and R5 includes CCV. R5 is still scheduled for the end of this year, although I believe that the dates are not diaried yet, with R6, R7 and R8 being rolled out in 2008. Further roll-outs will follow after that.

Well thats that then

Thanks for the gen will have a look later,

by the way when I said successful I kinda hoped u'd realise I wer joking, note wrong with JPA just ask the old CAS he said it was great, remember that video, can't argue with that now can we.

You may wish to investigate how "successful" the Army was at paying troops before JPA. I am now knocking by any means the Army's hard working support troops, but their computer system(s), I believe, was not as good as the other 2 Services.

UNICOM is a left-over from the Stone-Age of computing. It's green-screen (remember them?) and shows its' age. I am waiting to hear how the pongos handle the change over before I pass any comment whether it's positive or negative. Monday, 30 Apr 07 is the big day, just as 31 Mar 06 was the big day for us. Anyone taking bets on this being a late April Fools Joke on the Pongos?

Is anybody using these vouchers yet ? according to RAFCOM they came in on the 10th of dec.

Seems to be a bit of a waste of time if you're getting a lot of working families tax credits but as I'm married to a rich techie I can't claim them anyway.

Give them a ring if you want to know anything about the effect that your tax credits would have and how you would go about claiming. (0800 066 5075).

These vouchers certainly seem to follow the principle of "money goes to money" (not a dig!). Those who can afford to spend £500 per month on childcare will make a saving of 22% on their costs; or 40% if they pay the higher rate of tax. I guess that's why the only applicants from my place so far are among the aircrew.

How come admin staff at your unit are getting involved? Our lot have been told under no circumstances are they be bothered with it as it has absolutely nothign to do with us.

We're not getting involved as such. Typically, the aircrew and engineers see it as something to do with their pay and so they come to us. We direct them towards Sodexho, job done.

I am disgusted at how long this farce has taken to come into effect. I have lost out for both my kids, probably cost me £100s in tax paid that I could have saved, even £1000s over the years since it was available to civvys. Another kick in the balls was that the childcare facility at Marham was all teed up to accept them and was doing so where parents were civvys and employers were issuing them. Another reason I am leaving, as a 3yr lead time on getting them is completely unacceptable, and just demonstrates a failure in duty of care on the part of the employer and further erosion of the broken covenant. Not to mention the fact that the majority to benefit would be those who can least afford to lose the money, i.e. airmen, JNCOs and those with young families, where often one parent is unable to work.

Disgusting. Are you listening airships???
