The Chernobyl childrens charity I work for have 14 children coming this year aged between 7 years and 14 years, equal mix of boys and girls.

I'm on the scrounge for clothes and shoes for them all.

If anyone has any unwanted, good condition childrens clothes or shoes and would like to donate them to the children could you please pm me for details of where to send them.

The children arrive the 12th July.

Thanks LQ

A good cause LQ...I'll sticky this for you...

Goaters...See what you can dig out and send her...

Thanks Vim

While the Charity does run a shop, and all the children have the choice of any item in there for free, there always seems to be a lack of clothes and footwear for ages 10 to 14 for both sexes.

The charity does provide what it can to kit these children out, bearing in mind most children arrive with next to nothing, so this can prove expensive.

Any donated clothes/footwear would be a huge help.

Unfortunately we recently cleared out a load of kids clothes so you missed that batch, but it may be worth asking on freecycle...

It's basically a yahoo group that you join and people offer stuff to save it from the tip. Just checked my area (between lunchtime and now) and there is a motorcycle helmet, a computer desk, kids bike, coffee table, fruit machines, computer monitor, single pine bed and a large TV on offer. Whilst not that usefull, I've seen time and time again "Black bag full of boys clothes age 4-5" or something similar. You can post a wanted on there and sometimes it comes up trumps (like recently I aquired two very low spec laptops for free).

One word of warning though, if you choose to recieve individual emails then it will spam you up the ying yang as it'll deliver an email for every item posted! Well worth a punt though.

Many many many thanks to those who have already responded but more would be nice, as always.

It doesn't matter if it's summer outfits or winter ones as the children will take everything back with them so everything helps.

There is a website under construction, thanks to a certain goater who has given his time.

Bulk of it taken from the e-goat diary kept of last years visit. Yes the little girl that is about is coming back this year as she now has a sponsor so is being paid for privately :PDT_Xtremez_30:

No money is being asked for here, just clothing and shoes for the children.

Mono, thanks for that link mate

I will have a word with the Thrift Shop & see what they do with clothes that don't get sold. If there is anything of use for you, I will ask them to keep it so I can send it to you. Glad to hear that the little girl is coming back over to the UK. Are you going to host her again?:PDT_Xtremez_22:

Yes I am. As it was always stated beforehand that no child could return, purely for the reason that this would take up a place needed for another child, a new rule was brought in. It now stands that a child may return but the charity will not fund their visit, even though they attend during an organised stay. The child must have a sponsor who is willing to cover all charges and the host family must agree to have a second child. So as well as Yaroslava I have a 12 year old girl coming to me.

The shop run by our charity sorts out all the donations they recieve and those which are not possible to sell or to give to the children are bagged up and are then driven over to a local orphange and charities in Belarus. Don't know if other charities ship their excess items.

Giving this a bit of a bump

The children arrive next week.

Please, please please, have a look and see if you have anything to donate to them. As well as clothes we've even had some send items such as Barbie dolls and action men, many thanks for those, the children will love them.

Very quick update

The children arrived last night, all safe and sound.

The clothes which were sent direct to me will be handed out amongst the children on wednesday afternoon, as will the selection which is at the shop.

For those interested in this years hosting experience, there is a 2008 diary section and updates with photos being made over at the charitiy website.

Many many thanks again

Giving a little reminder. Appealing for the same things as last year, clothes shoes and toys, we are not asking for money or new items, just good quality and clean things.

This year we're bringing a group of 13 kids over for a three week respite holiday, arrive 13th July, aged between 9 and 15 years.

Anyone who wishes to donate clothes, shoes or toys to the kids can send them direct to the charity at;

Crook for Chernobyl children charity shop
Hope Street
Crook
Co.Durham

Many thanks

LQ
