Claim money if you wear a uniform (though not most of us)

and have to wash, repair or replace it yourself, you may be able to reclaim tax of £100s

That phrase could mean people do qualify. There are still blocks out there with coin operated washers and dryers. Then there are people in quarters who buy their own white goods.

It can be sent for cleaning through stores. That's where we lose out.

Then all it needs is for everyone who is entitled to avail themselves of this service for a month.

Wonder how they would like them apples?

Only your blue uniform trouser and No1 is entitled to be cleaned at public expense, all your blue shirts, socks, greens, MTP, deserts could be claimed for. I beleive some people have already been successful and got back about £70. Worth a try:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Tried this about 6 or 7 years ago when I was still in the mob, as did many other folk I know. We all got a letter back stating that we were ineligible.
Good luck to anyone else trying it.

Nobody in the RAF I know has managed to get any money for this scheme, nor has any goater ever come forth and said they got it.

I believe this is an urban myth.

Sure someone started a similar thread about this about 6 months ago and it turns out we are not entitled to jack.

Sent from my iPhone using my thumb.

This old story has done the rounds many times. There are two stumbling points, the first is that the RAF provides a uniform cleaning service for you via stores. The second is that your employer must have a memorandum of understanding with HMRC, unfortunately the MoD doesn't :(

However it is worth bearing in mind for your wider family. I have a cousin in the Prison Service who is able to claim, as well as my wife who is a nurse in an NHS hospital.

I work for the nhs but because I wear my own clothes ( we are supposed to get extra in our wages to cover this) I can't claim for dry cleaning. My partner works for the nhs also but because she wears a uniform she's entitled and she claimed back a few years and got the money back.
