Clarity on some health questions?

Okay. I've finally got the health condition dealt with that stopped me getting in the RAF two years ago, or rather something that was not supposed to be on my health records that had somehow made its way onto it!

Needless to say I carried on with sporting activities and I have never been so fit in my life before. Was looking towards doing my first triathlon at some stage in the next year.

However I've recently had a check up and was found to have unusually high blood pressure for my age. The doctor suspects I might have an over-active Thyroid gland, but won't know until I've had further checks done.

My question is (hopefully simple), if it does turn out that I have an over-active Thyroid, does this prohibit me from entering into any of the services?

Cheers!

Hi

I suffer from an under active thyroid and take meds every day and I was accepted. I had to go for a specialist medical in peterborough, I was told I couldnt join as aircrew which was fine because Im going in as an SE Fitter

Hope this helps

I'm not sure mate. unfortunately when i had my medical due to nerves i also gave high blood pressure readings, but as the doc thought it was best that i get readings done with my GP so that i wasn't nervous, he temporarily failed me, but he did state that if i did have high blood pressure then it would be a definate fail so i would imagine high blood pressure of any sorts would stop you joining - if thats incorrect feel free to correct me :PDT_Xtremez_14:. Luckily for me they are slightly over average but not classed as high blood pressure. Good luck either way mate.

That's really interesting - I'd assumed daily meds would keep you out. I'm almost certainly going to develop an under-active thyroid at some point in the future as it runs in my family (usually after 40th birthday) so it's kind of nice to know it wouldn;t necessarily mean instant dismissal! Fortunately there's no sign of it yet...
