Just a question... if someone is going for a comission and they have so say had the interviews, exams etc could it be possible that tney could be told that the trade they are going for has no vacancies, and its is put on hold.

I'm just checking that someone is not feeding me a line.

Didn't realise Gingas had their own language as well:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Just had a lad here come back from Cranners after being told similar.
They are being very choosy now and most applicants are in tight competition for slots.
It may be you're friend didn't quite make the grade this time for the limited slots but I'm sure they will have been asked to re apply after a specified time.

oh phooey:PDT_Xtremez_34: I'm having a bad day but thanks for your earlier reply.

The competition for commissioning is very very tight at the moment, in fact there are only 2 branches that have not completed a very successful recruiting campaign and are still accepting recruits.

Even those of us who are already in and are trying for re-branch are being told to come back in 18 months or so, so I don't think your friend is telling porkies (or was told porkies).

The situation is very similar in the Army at the moment as well, don't forget the recession is still very much having an effect so the number of jobs in civvy strasse just isn't there at the moment.

I think that it is quite disgusting that those who have been ousted from their jobs have clogged up the armed forces as a fall back. Especially as officer "material". I know it's a case of self preservation in a way, but can't Cranwell see that they may not be getting the best guys and gals for the job???

Just a thought...

Also, with regards to recruiting, when do the floodgates open for the officer intake? I'm anticipating that it will be in the new financial year?

Another question for those in the know(!) are they being more particular at the P2 phase or are they letting Cranwell eek out the "unworthy"!

Also, which two branches aren't being recruited into? Just out of curiosity, of course!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

It is true I have just tried to re branch with some very good backing and I've been told 2011!! Gutted....Still at least not in the dole queue I saw on the tv just now. Air Tragic, Fighter Control and Flight Ops are all thats open at the mo, heard that direct from the horses mouth at OASC that was about 4 weeks ago, might have changed again.

Don't think your mate was being fibbed to :PDT_Xtremez_26:

They are - OASC does not work to quotas, it works on open competition and chooses the best chap, or chapess, for the job regardless of their background.

When I went through Sleaford Tech in 2000 there were some Cadets in my course who had waited 18 months for a place having been given the thumbs up from OASC; this isn't a new phenomenon. All you have to do is keep trying, if you're good enough they will take you.

Edited to add: Flt Ops, ATC and Fighter Control are all that's open because they are sh1t - avoid them like the plague.

Well, thanks for the heads up DBRL! Will hopefully be putting my paperwork in the future! None of the ones you have mentioned are in my top three anyway. Hopefully Cranners will eek out all of those who don't make the grade. It might take a little longer to sort my application out as I want to be fully (to the point of nearly being anal) prepared before I grace the steps of the AFCO once again...!:PDT_Xtremez_14:
