I'm going to call OASC and the Chief Clerk on Monday but wondering if in the mean time any one on here knows the answer to the following:
Having served 15 years as an airman and reached Sgt, if successful in commissioning as a Personnel Officer, would it be a short service or permanent commission? If a PC am I right in thinking thats 18 years service or a minimum of 8 years as an Officer (having already done 15, obviously 3 more years as a minimum would make no sense)
Finally, post NEM and SDSR15, what is likely to happen to Personnel Officers as it seems to have many avenues that could (God forbid) be civillianised and as the opportunities for OOA's in the branch are apparently hard to come by, deployability seems to be a weak argument for not touching the branch in any cut backs.
I am trying to work out whether by going for it I may be going for something that looks great and full of opportunities but may not exist in a few years in the same guise, or come 2015 I might get made redundant and having not yet done 22 years I would be out on my ear with no pension either.
I know this lot seems worst case scenario but I've done well so far, in a fantastic job and confident I could do well as I am because I love my job.
Any helpful advice with this would be appreciated.
