The goat is telling me i've not been active in a while so here's a question...

Is compulsory PT actually compulsory? only where I am it's 'encouraged' rather than 'compulsory' so i've been told. Other units seem to have a strict 'you will attend circuits/runs etc' enforceable in orders.

Anyone know the answer? not a whinge or anything, just wondered....

In my Section it's compulsory for Juniors not on essential duties, but Seniors can do what they want.

IMO, this is a problem. Either it's a directive or not, there should be no grey area. Do they grade RAFFT failures according to how your section 'encourages' folk to attend 'compulsory PT'? No, so whilst the whole RAFFT policy is set in stone (apart from the large number of 'can't be @rsed' people at High Wycombe), it's a farce that the other components of the fitness strategy aren't approached with the same vigour. As an aside, I'm glad I'm now out and don't have to deal with the double standards that pervade the whole fitness policy. Now, where's that unfeasibly large G&T?:PDT_Xtremez_19:

If someone says 'go to circuits' it's compulsory.

If it's a non specific 'encouragement' then its not compulsory. (But if you're cut away to the gym you can't go home and play xbox) However, if you don't go, don't be offended if your attitude to fitness is called into question come SJAR time.

Now here's the thing. Maybe, just maybe, we're being treated as adults. Each individual knows how much phys he or she needs to do in order to stay up-to-standard. Why wipe their ar$e by telling them exactly when and how much to do. Fall below standards and we all know what's going to happen. I don't think Phys needs anything more than 'encouragement'. (Plus it gives us as NCOs a line in the SJAR about how well we encourage fitness in others).

If that's the case, don't call it compulsory PT.

Unless it's compulsory ....

Who calls it that anyway?

I've only heard it called compulsory PT when applied to the remedial AFT failures.

(Although we have 2 sessions a week in work time that SO3 and below are directed to attend - so I guess that's compulsory)

Bollocks! What has happend to a good old fashioned military ORDER!

It is compulsory or it is not and if NCO's do not enforce said order then THAT should be commented on in their SJAR!

(The whole fitness thing does my head in and I now sound like certain undesirable persons on here - BUGGER!)

We have "directed" PT 3 times a week. They are hard beasting sessions which left me hardly able to get in and out of my car by Saturday morning!

I was told that although it wasnt compulsary, it was "strongly encouraged", but like others have said, I know how much training I need to do to pass the Fitness Test, and I consider myself big enough and ugly enough and long enough in the tooth to be able to manage it, and so far I have done just that. I now attend the Sqn circuits very occasionally and spend the other times either doing my core role(!), or on the treadmill.

Others in my section have been given the same degree of courtesy and have subsequently failed the test, at which point the "strongly encouraged" is removed and replaced by "compulsary" for the rest of their tour. They have clearly demonstrated that they cannot be trusted to manage their own lifestyle and have been brought back into line.

Some logical, joined-up thinking being applied in your squadron ... it'll never catch on!

Realist, if you are 'out' not sure if you mean you are open with your sexuality or you are ex military. If you are the latter why are you wasting hours of your life getting excited about compulsary PT. Get on with your life you sad muppet.

The latter for your info and I ain't wasting hours (minutes is nearer the truth) getting excited about it at all. I thought I was a member of a site where you can comment freely about ANYTHING, even if you're now out of the mob or is it, in your eyes, a site for serving members only? As for getting on with life, I am quite happily thanks for your concern.
