I am off on a First Aid Course at Keogh Barracks and was wondering if anyone could let me know the state of the blocks and if it is the middle of nowhere, cheers

Just asked one of the lads in the office and he has said that it should be the home of the Army medical corp. And is over nr bath/bristol way.

He said the blocks were ok-ish depends on how high your standards are. But there should be lots of nurse's and plenty to do in bath.

Keogh Barracks is in Aldershot. It is a s**t hole. I am guessing you are doing your MTGB course?

If you are a Junior Rank you will be accomodated in Sandhurst Block which is hell on foundations, you will also be in shared 4/6/8 man rooms.

If you are SNCO you will be in the mess/annex which is not quite as bad.

Keogh can be a pain in the posteria to find if you dont know where you are going. Feel free to PM me with where you are travelling from and I will get you some decent directions with landmarks.

Enjoy!

Just to add. The NAAFI shop opens sporadically and the nearest other shop is a petrol station about 2 miles away. Take your car if you can. Also it's PAYD so it is definately worth having transport to go out and eat something edible.

Sandhurst block it is then, the course is the Regiment BFA course, spoke to MT here and they said that if I am staying on camp then I can get dropped off, so no car to pootle around in

Gutted mate!

There is a pub/restaurant about 200 meters from the front gate - Potters. Its not too bad there.

Hope the course isn't too long as it's not a very nice place. You will get treated like a child and you have to report to the main gate to sign in and out every time you enter or leave the unit.

There's actually a shop a little closer if you hang a left along the lake road about 200m from the main gate. When you hit the main road, hang a left. Sure it's closer than 2 miles and will offer more than the petrol station. But agreed, it's a fcukin dump. Potters is a good place though.

Keogh has just had the bar refurbished for JR's, and they've now got a posh coffee shop. The blocks are still crap though, if you're an NCO you may get your own 4 man room, but that's at an outside chance. Ring the accommodation Sgt the week before to check your accommodation is booked, if it's a RAF SNCO you may get given a single room, but it's pot luck most of the time.

Don't get anything with peas from Potter's they're like shrapnel.....
