I know this is thinking ahead and all that, but not thinking ahead tends to go badly for me, so here goes.

I have prtc next week and rts in Feb, then the following training as per afterwards. I was wondering if during the time after rts, I will be able to take a college course under the same entitlement as a fully qualified serviceman/woman?

Obviously this is providing all goes to plan with prtc, rts etc.

It sounds like you're planning to do a college course during your trade training? You might find that very much a challenge, I'd be tempted to concentrate on your trade training then do a college course once you've finished and are at your permanent unit. No point doing a half-a*sed job on 2 courses at the same time.

No.

There is absolutely no way you will get signed off to do a day release course while at phase 2 training. Even if it is one you are going to do completely in your own time the RAF won't pay for it while you are already on a course. As mentioned as well, doing a college course while also studying for your trade is a bad idea.

After you are fully qualified and at your first posting you will be encouraged to take up further study, but for the RAF to help towards costs or give you time off, it will need to be a course which is beneficial in some way towards the RAF, you cannot just decide to do something completely unrelated and have assistance.

Yeah should have really thought about trying to take in two courses at once. Something for a posting I think.

Cheers :)

There is no 'entitlement' for anyone to have time off to do day release but is allowable if the section you work for can cover for your time away and your Management are happy for you to go.

If there are several people in a section wanting to do day release, you'll obviously be lowest in the pecking order but eventually, your time will come.

In the early years the RAF will contribute very little but after a qualifying period you will have 3 lots of £1000 you can use, 1 per financial year with a personal contribution of 20%. These amounts rise to £2000 a time if you keep them for a longer period.

If you can't do day release there are alternatives including on-line, distance learning, Open University or a couple of evenings at college.

Good luck for your RAF training and the future.
