Am thinking of going to Croatia in July, so would appreciate any info on hotels on the coast and near the beach. The nippers have long flown the nest so we were looking for a chilled out quiet place. Any info would be gratefully received.
cheers

As I live in Sarajevo, we always go to the Croatian Coast a couple of times a year, there are hundreds of fascinating Islands, each with their own unique sites and history. If you want to go somewhere awesome then I would suggest a couple of days in a Hotel in Dubrovnik then move up the Coast to the Dalmation Coast, Makarska is fantastic, great night life also, if you want something a little quieter but really scenic then I couldn't recommend Brela more highly, it is where we always go, great restaurants, lovely beaches and you can get daily trips out to Bol and other very scenic places. We always gather at a little pub near the small marina there and sit outside the pub next to the beach with a large Glass of Hladno Tocno Pivo (Cold Draught Beer) and watch the fantastic sun sets every night as the sun sizzles into the Adriatic :PDT_Xtremez_14: ...

Agree with Gundulph. I worked in Zagreb at the Civil engineering Uni and although it's a bit run down the people are very polite / helpful.

A lot of Germans go to the coast every year so it can't be bad as they whinge at just about everything.

Food and drink is also fairly cheap so put a couple of extra holes in your belt before you go. :PDT_Xtremez_26:

I shall try it myself when Shugster jnr gets a bit older.

Absolutely agree with Gundolph, you will not be disappointed. Beautiful climate, scenery, food, the whole lot. Just returned from Sarajevo and also managed to get there for a few weekends. Stunning!

Been going there regularly for the last 14 years and have to agree with the previous...

Dubrovnik - a must.
Moving north - Split, Trogir, Sibenik.
Islands - any really, Brac is cracking.
Istria peninsula (After Dubrovnik, my favourite place) - if you go that far north then Pula should be on the list.

Where ever you go I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I will look out some pics and post them here later. Agree with all the above, Pula especially, it has the 3rd Largest Arena (like the Colisseum in Rome) in the World. Something you may well like to have a look at and possibly book yourself a very unusual but fantastic scenic Holiday is the following out of the Sawdays Guide:

Press on the picture above to go to the Website, the place in the pic is Bol.
