Just ordered the latest installment of the Metallica legacy, but heard lots (and lots) of people complaining about the recording quality! Not quite like St. Anger that sounded like it was recorded in a garage somewhere.

As an example comparing the CD with Guitar Hero!

I am unable to comment as the only real copy I have so far is the Guitar Hero 3 version. I have the audio album on a 'try before you buy' MP3 download, and it is the best offering from Metallica for years so I will definately be buying it soon.

BTW, the launch concert at the O2 was brilliant!

Got a lot of compression on there, mate ?

TBH it's not that great, they said it was a mix of MOP and AJFA but it's neither. Yes it might be better than St Anger but it's still a poor album by their previous standards, it's a D/L album rather than go out and buy it.

Thats not too difficult considering that Load,Reload and St Anger were the ones since!
I personally quite like Load and Reload, however pitching this album as "The next And Justice For All / Master of Puppets" was a bit of a shot in the foot. Now if they'd said Master of puppets / Ride the Lightning then you'd have the impression of an all round immense album. Again I might be on my own on this one, but personally I don't rate And Justice that highly. One is a good track, but the rest I could quite happily skip...

Gotta agree with mono on this one, I liked Load and Reload (thought the more bluesy style worked very well) and St Anger was..........interesting. It would've been a lot better if Lars had stuck to using a drum kit instead of a saucepan:PDT_Xtremez_25:

Even if they weren't their best, at least they tried something new. If they'd stuck to tried and tested stuff, people would be slagging them for stagnating.

But TBH, I'm a bit wary of any album that is touted as "the next (whatever)" or "a return to classic form" as it normally means the band has run out of ideas and are re-hashing their best stuff. Also, the snippets I've heard sound like some kid in a basement has made a "mash-up" of some classic stuff.

The fact that I still haven't got it tells a tale in itself.

Load wasn't a bad album but I prefered garage inc, I know it was a covers one but it was very good. I can't stand and justice myself for me it's when it started to go wrong. If you watch the some kind of monster dvd you wonder how they even got another record done!

Garage Inc wasn't bad, but the main reason I bought it was for disc 2! I had most of the B-sides and The $5.98 EP on a tape of a tape of a scratched LP and my tape was unplayable by then. It was nice to finally hear The Small Hours and The Wait in all their glory:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Still haven't seen Some Kind of Monster as I'm not sure if I want to see my heroes ****ing and moaning like guests on Jeremy Kyle:PDT_Xtremez_42:

It was worth sitting through it to see Lars chatting to Dave Mustaine. To say you could cut the atmosphere with a knife is a small understatement. Saying that, you could probably find it on youtube.

Metallica would have been much better if Dave Mustaine was in there too... Speed and Talent combined... It would be brilliant
