hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered before (and yes i have had a look) but how long do DHE have to give you an offer of a quarter once your application is in???.

I only ask because i have now got to the four week stage after submitting my application, i have phoned them and they tell me that "there is nothing to be allocated to me at the moment - try again in two weeks". I asked about the address in three weeks thingy and was told "that is only if we have an address to allocate". Some one at work has told me that if they have not got anything after three weeks then they should start to look for SSFA?? is he talking balls????

Just wondering, as i am getting a ear full from the wife as we need to try to get the the two little fatcodycats into school, well we won't now as they are all closed but we would be able to read the reports on the schools.

JSP 464 Part 2 tells you everything you need to know in order to ensure DIO don't try to sell you short. Specifically:

0507. Administration of the SFA Application Form. Garrison/Station Housing staffs are to provide applicants for SFA with a provisional address within 15 working days of receipt of a properly completed application form (MOD F1132) – where it is submitted up to 4 months ahead of the assignment date. The allocation of type of property (houses, bungalows or flats) to other ranks is not to be determined by rank but by the availability of SFA and subject only to the applicant’s entitlement.

That seems pretty cut and dried to me.

We went through this on another thread TBJ, remember? The JSP can say that the houses should be made of gold but DE don't give a toss. Even Mickreay who now works for them gave up trying to find out what regs they think they should work to. It appears to be done completely word of mouth and they change depending on the mood of the DE rep. I've certainly never been allocated a house within 15 working days, more like 15 days before march-in to give me as little time as possible to find out anything about it therefore reducing the chance of me rejecting it for Service reasons.

An agency populated almost wholly by lying self serving twunts.

You're absolutely right Joe. When dealing with my own SFA issues I have found that knowing the JSP better than the allocations officer can work wonders when persuading them to do their jobs properly. They tend to give me what I want just to make me go away!!

Hummm..

Ok i have got no problem at all rattling some cages on this, but i need to be 100% right before I start.....

If they can't give me an address within the 15working days then do i qualify for SSFA??

Moving to a top secret base helecopter base in oxfordshire......

Good luck with that!!

I heard that particular base has a massive waiting list for qtrs, SSFA probably isn't an option in that above average cost commuting zone.

Humm Ok.

I understand that the cost of rent is high in that area but do DHE have to follow the AP or only when they want???.

If it comes to rasing a bill against my current quarter does this mean that i dont have to pay it because i can decide that the AP does not apply to me in that particalar section??.

If they cant give me an address in the 15 working days then do they have to offer me SSFA??

or an i being unreasonable???

No, you're not being unreasonable, the good book is quite clear in that they must give you an address within 15 working days. Whether that is SFA or SSFA is dependent on availability and the cost to DIO of SSFA is their problem not yours.

However, Joe90 is quite correct to note that DIO often try to interpret the regulations to their advantage and, if that cannot happen, they will try to pull the wool over applicants' eyes. In this case knowledge really is power and if the allocations officer really isn't playing ball you should speak to your SCSO who has a lot of influence with regard to SFA allocations.

Just so I know I'm not being unfair to DIO, when are you posted/looking to move house? If it's a couple or 3 months away they may be trying to hang on to see if anything suddenly becomes available before they have to resort to SSFA, although they should have the courtesy to be open with you and tell you that's what they're doing.
