Can somebody tell me if DA gets paid at the end of the month in the pay run or a couple of days after you claim?

Thanks

End of month with your pay run, and taxed (apart from the child element)

If you put in for DA after mid way through the month you wont get it at the end of that month, you'll have to wait until the next payday.
So although you can apply up to 30 days before your move you could be waiting 6 week for the claim to be paid.
It happened to me and a few of my mates when we moved.

Same thing happened to me.

You can't claim until30 days before the move, and if that means you miss the mid-month cut off for the pay run...............

not that I'm cynical...........:)

Same to me. 30 days for the claim would have meant I got it the day after moving no matter how hard I tried.

Thanks to some very helpful shineys though managed to get sorted for some of it prior to moving.

I don't suppose anyone will be surprised to learn that the Army have always paid DA with monthly pay (and therefore usually 6 weeks after the money is needed) and we adopted their way of working when JPA was introduced.

I am confused by the wording of the paragraph to do with income tax and NICs. My understanding is that the MOD meets the tax liability for all DA claims although the paragraph implies otherwise. Certainly, I have never paid tax on any DA claim, including the one occasion to date that I have claimed it through JPA. Curious.

I'll have to dig out my payslip but considering when i moved i seem to have been shortchanged(taxed) on my DA when i moved from ISK.

Long time ago now, but I am certain I was taxed on my DA...Sure I remember it was meant to be about 1000 pounds but I only had about 700 in the bank...

Erm,

Having been self employed for some time, both within the UK and Yourope, I was always advised that an allowance is exactly that, an allowance. An allowance is therefore an agreed tax free or tax deductible payment with the relevant authority of the host nation.

If you have been taxed on it, at the end of the financial year, ask HMRC for a tax return and you should get any incorrectly taxed monies back.

(Even though you are PAYE in the forces, you really ought to fill out a tax return full stop. Do it and you might be surprised.)
