Finally got our posting notice through for Brize - 15th September we are posted. That gives us less than two weeks and HIC have still not allocated us a quarter. They want 18 days from when THEY can be bothered to allocate. Given our circumstances, I am thinking that maybe they should put us as a priority?!?! I was promised an address yesterday, they have still not looked at it yet.

My question is - does any person be it RAF or civvy have any authority whatsoever over DE or HIC? I have heard in the past that they are a law unto themselves and will listen to nobody, including Harry Staish.

Try speaking to the regional office at High Wycombe, as they do the allocations.

Unless you go to air rank then not really they have a set contract and set time frame work. As you already have a roof over your head then even with the short notice you take no more priority than any other person awaiting a fmq

Try 0800 169 6322. It's an automated service, follow the prompts for the area and you'll be able to speak to someone at High Wycombe.

Just had this argument with the High Wycombe lot and they will NOT budge. They say they can budge if you sign a waiver and any works needed (getting a cooker in my case) will not get done, even after you have moved in.

I have been speaking to High Wycombe all morning. (HIC). They can probably move us in to a quarter by 15th but they cannot guarantee all work will be done (that doesn't bother me in the slightest as all work is NEVER done!!) Just waiting on High Wycombe calling us back now. They apparently have a quarter being looked at for us just now.

Thanks for your replies.

They are also very reluctant to do this as well especially from a health and safety perspective. They will not give you a fmq that is unsafe

You mean their 'intention' is to not give you a FMQ that is unsafe? HAHA you want to see my kitchen in my current quarter - 1970's and the doors are actually hanging off! Except for the ones that have already fell off.

Were they hanging off when you moved in if so you would have been made aware of outstanding WS and if they have fell of since I am assuming you have put in for them to be repaired, as this could be an issue if your current FMQ is not up to standard for your march out.

High Wycombe HIC are the most useless feckwits I've come across whilst dealing with DE, they don't believe in having a MQ cleaned before your march in either.

If you check the DE website there is a complaints procedure that I would recommend you use, just skip the contacting the relevant HIC out......I wrote to High Wycombe about a problem they couldn't/wouldn't solve and they didn't even respond to the letter like they are supposed to!

Good luck in getting it sorted.

Yeah they were starting to fall off when we moved in. DE have been out to look at them and MHS have been to repair them about 10 times. They will not replace the units and the doors cannot be replaced as they are too old and this size door is no longer available. We even had some big wigs out to look at them. They said they would get back to us. They never did. If it is an issue when we move out, they can take it up with MHS and lack of funding. You wouldn't think this is a surplus officer's quarter!

They're all feckwits.

Just marched into a new quarter today and they're replacing all the carpets in the house except the livingroom which is turd brown and fecking stinks of dog. And I don't mean just a wiff, it stinks.

I have to "monitor the situation" and if it stays, they'll replace it.

What they probably mean is wait till my nose gets used to the pong and they'll do feck all.

HAHA they really are a bunch of useless.... they told me on the phone that they have to have all this time in order to make sure the cleaners can do their jobs!

You know, I'm sure many people have thought this before me but.....Common sense says that surely if people are needing quarters short notice then maybe they should get the cleaners and MHS in immediately AFTER a march out. Maybe it would make sense to have a quarter ready to move into before somebody needs it. That way they can move short notice people in. I dunno, maybe a pre-requisite for working in the housing centre is a lack of common sense!

My god, that's terrible but sadly very common. I would get SSAFA on the case. Do you have kids? Extra ammunition is what I'm thinking.

I hate DE with a passion, one sunny friday afternoon had a letter shoved through the door telling me the quarter had been handed back to Anningtons and we had to be out by Sept.

Called the HIC as per instructions on the letter, no on knew a thing about it. The housing manager was unobtainable constantly.

We applied for a new house and went into the melting pot with all other applicants. Now I would have thought knowing 10 families were about to be displaced that maybe they could preallocate new SFA but no.

They then said we would all go to a new area recently aquired from the Yanks. But they only had 4 beds left so went back on that promise and allocated all over the place. I went up to OCAS and he investigated and was told that all families would go the american quarters as was the Station Commander. But they went back on it again.

Why do they feel they are doing you a favour giving you a quarter? And why do MHS need 2 weeks to do sweet FA, my quarter looked like it had been painted by my 2 year old.

But the on the plus side I do get disturbance and they can get bent if they think I am going to go mad cleaning this quarter.

620jenny620,

Something you may wish to try is your friendly neighbourhood padre. They used to be able to cut a swath through red tape and even gatecrash Harry Staishs office to get things done. Hopefully they still can.

That's true, Padre's can still cut through red tape and visit Harry Staish without an appointment, normally phone before hand though......if they can't help they normally know who can!

620 - it's not a bit of advice from on here that you need, you need a full time Social Worker FFS.

Let me know in advance before you get sent anywhere nasty, I'll remember to avoid this place for 6 months. There is a limit to the amount of home dramas a bloke can take.
