I've had JSF down on my JPA for as long as you could actually select it as to be honest, I want to do something different with my last 7 years and not end up dying on that bloody GR4 at Marhell. So, having asked my Wobbly (Who has emailed Manning) to alert those who can pull a few strings, of my interest. If I was to end up at Creech for an accompanied tour, what's in place to help support my Family and I whilst there?

My Wife should be able to acquire some sort of a retail job, she isn't specialised in anything other than customer service. Our Son is just turning 5 so he is right on the cusp of starting his education properly, so my main concern there would be the syllabus that he could follow and is it structured so that he'll easily re-enter the English / Scottish education system on our return to the UK?

What about Medical care etc? Would they have to go private as dependents aren't catered for anymore in the UK?

Any advice is as always very much appreciated.

Cheers.

Dream on, why do you think half of Marhell has had to go up to lossie for 4 months? There is no escape, apart from PVR. For you Marhell awaits!!!!!!!!

I can but hope dear Ady, and seeing as I've only just got the Foundation Q with the intent to tell them to ram any other 'Q' up their hairy hoop, I've as good a chance as any.

The GR4 sucks hairy balls, fact. VSTOL Till I Die.

So then peeps, I imagine it would be the same as for the lads on 39Sqn seeing as it'll be based at Creech?

I worked at 39 for 3 years and left in 2010. I will give info as far as I know from then but I don't think much has changed.

Yes your wife can get a job if she wishes once she gets a work permit from the embassy.

Medical is all taken care of through the hospital at Nellis for both dependants and yourself.

My kids went to a private school paid for by the embassy as the state schools have one of the lowest ranking in the whole country. They both did really well and have had no problem since being back in the UK, in fact they are both now at the top if their classes, son is going to grammar school in September after passing his 11+, my daughter will also go as she is the cleverer one!! They may have lowered the education budget now though/ changed the rules.

This is all based on if you were at Creech but
I didn't think that it was going to be based at Creech though, I thought it was at a base in California.

I could have sworn reading something about it going to Creech.....nevertheless I'm pretty sure that the available support will not differ between the 2 locations. I'll do my research anyway before I say yay or nay, should the offer arise.

Thanks for the info miniboo.

Support is Embassy as opposed to the service provided by 39.

Principles remain the same as Miniboo said.

I was in Marietta, georgia for 3 years. The schools are 2 years behind the UK in terms of age. I had a 6 year old who started school at that age. I also gor private tuition for him on reading and maths(once a week) which the embassy kindly paid for. When we came back to the UK he was still classed as a year behind children of the same age in terms of ability. Mind you he was the dogs b*%$&*k's at rounders and skating after playing Baseball and Ice Hockey!!!
Unless its changed, your wife will have to register with a local Doctor. All bills are generally covered by the medical insurance provided by the embassy staff.(My wife had a hysterectomy out there. All the cost was covered by the medical insurance $24000!!!!). Same for the dentist, she would only pay the equivalent cost of NHS treatment, the embassy would make up the difference. (American dental costs are very pricey). All of this may be different if there is a large number of service personnel stationed there. There was only 4 of us at Marietta.

Top advice guys, I would love to experience such a tour but at the same time, wish to suffer no disadvantage across any aspect on me and my family's return to the UK.

I'll bear that Embassy link in mind as well Noidea, if I'm successful. :)

I'd like some of what you've been smoking that makes you think there's a chance of getting to the states please!

Arrrrrr - you've got to be in it to win it!
You'll never get to any of these places unless you put in for them.
I have been so lucky in my RAF career and now my civvy career in getting to some fabulous places and in a perverse way thanks to the chancellor and Cameron, wouldn't be living the dream I am now if not for them!!
