After a look at the brief given at Brize Norton, there is a question that I’m sure has a reasonable answer, but we will, no doubt, never get an answer as there is not really a mechanism for it.
The question is this: Given that there are too many CIS Techs, and many at present occupy IM designated slots in UK and overseas, and indeed are trained to be flexible and occupy them, why is there such a disparity between Sgt IM and Sgt CIS Tech with regard to Out of Area Tours. Sgt IM’s at present have a turn around of 3 years (the shortest in the trade) Sgt CIS Techs are quoted as having a 6-7 year turn around.
I appreciate very much that other trades are much worse off than we are, and there are members of our trade, both CIS tech and IM in formed units that go away a lot more, but it does appear that there could be some kind of re-balancing done here.
Of course there is an argument that many Out of Area IM jobs are historically peanut type jobs, like the dreaded jobs behind the steel door. These jobs are now being done in certain places perfectly well by other trades, - its only a 5 day course then anybody can do it – even a CIS Tech!!

Great, PM me details and then I can have an easy tour :)

On a serious note your probably right. I can't check the figures but it seems that some people are getting away with it in your trade. What is the trade sponsors view?

Well he could start by calling the trade by its correct name, its CIS Tech not SYS Tech. A SYS(TEM) Tech was the senior C/T in an old IUKADGE bunker.
