The injury suffered by Eduardo yesterday (23 Feb) is horribly reminiscent of the one that ended the career of David Busst of Coventry City in the early 90's. I can only hope that today's surgeons and physiotherapists can work wonders and get the player back on the pitch again. Interestingly, the BBC showed the incident in slo-mo on MOTD, whereas I understand Sky refused to do so. I can see why :PDT_Xtremez_35:
Arsenal have been by far the most attractive side to visit Anfield this season and I have a lot of repsect for Arsene Wenger's coaching and managerial skills, but he is also the worst sufferer of touchline myopia. In calling for Martin Taylor to be banned from playing professional football again, Mr Wenger conveniently forgot that in his own tenure Arsenal have seen 72 red cards quite a few of which could have had the same result had circumstances been slightly different. To his credit though, he has stated that his comments were perhaps a little excessive; a little bit of engage brain before mouth next time perhaps - no player seriously sets out to break the leg of an opponent after all.
Eduardo is also going to miss The Euro Finals with Croatia having been pivotal in helping dump pathetic England out at Wembley.

Lets just hope we see the guy back playing again. He's already shown what he's capable of with some of his goals. Another great Wenger signing, and hopefully he'll be back for next season.

Djibril Cisse suffered TWO horrific broken legs and is still playing. So there's hope for the lad.

Holy moly......

Holy moly......

Just watched the vids and the close ups, by God that must have been excruciating!........Taylor should be put away for that, Tackle?....that looked more like premeditated GBH, i'm no Gunners fan, but that was sickening,i've seen some sports injuries in my time and breaks never bothered me until now.....:0

Alan Smith suffered similar getting in the way of a John Arne Riise freekick at Anfield when he was playing for Man Ure, he made a full recovery but I suppose his down side is now he plays for Newcastle:PDT_Xtremez_31: . The tackle is not as bad as some this season but Eduardo is unluky that his leg is at an angle that it is'nt going to move backwards as it would have done if it was straight and at match speed it didn't look bad, only through slo-mo replays it then looks really bad but I hope he gets sorted and is back next season.

I saw some stills of it on youtube and it looked very painful. I will be amazed if he's back playing next season, by the time it's healed and got the strength rebuilt in it, i think we are gonna be looking at closer to summer next year.

i wouldn't go as far as calling for criminal charges to be brought against taylor. that would be the start of a very slippery slope and see what little contact there is in football being completly removed.

as for the tackle, it was very clumsy and in slo-mo it looks a lot worse, but at full match speed it is only mis-timed by a fraction of a second. It's just incredibly unlucky that eduardo's foot was planted and the angle taylor went in.

Yep, quite agree. Everyone wants to see the most skillful players performing in the PL, larely because their skill and sheer quickness of mind and feet fools the less mobile defenders and gets us all out of our seats at their sheer brilliance. But they are inevtiably going to draw fouls from less mobile defenders. Both Eduardo and Taylor stretched for a ball they thought they could win (and one that their repsective manger, team-mates and fans would expect them to try and win) but Taylor was simply beaten to it by a nimbler player.
Football is a contact sport and, painful though it is, players get injured as a result. As long as these injuries occur through genuine attempts to play the ball, and not through malocious intent (which is difficult to ascertain of course), then going to court isn't the answer.

Have you ever seen a game of football before?

It was a clumsy tackle with no malicious intent. I have seen a lot worse end up in nothing more than a quick falling over and a bit of magic spray. They were both just unlucky.

I agree the tackle was clumsy.

The Referee took the right action by Red carding however. Players have to learn that their feet should not be raised above ankle height when tackling. And the FA and Referees should consistently hammer this home to both Managers and Players until they get the message.

PS...10 min sin bin for Players a la rugby on a Yellow Card. But that's a different argument.

As a Gooner, I'm obviously horrified by the injury to Eduardo but I don't believe that there was any malice in the tackle; I certainly didn't jump up from my seat and start bawling at the TV as I might have done had it looked a bad tackle! Wenger has, quite rightly, retracted his comments regarding Taylor which he had said in the heat of the moment and are quite understandable after such an injury. What concerns me now is Arsenal's lack of striking options now Eduardo & Van Persie are sidelined; Bentner & Adebayor don't get on and Walcott has a long way to go before he's the finished article and there aren't many other options. I suspect this may hamper us in the title run in and Champions League 2nd leg at Milan.

Let's hope Eduardo has a speedy recovery; fortunately he's young enough to recover and continue his promising career.

What did you make of Gallas's reaction to the penalty HS? I've only seen it on replays today, but it seems he spat the dummy big style! Who the heck was he angry with? The defender for conceding the pen? The ref for giving it?

Hopefully the defender! Having got back in the game & in injury time the big punt up the field was in order there not fannying about at the back! Gallas' reaction was unprofessional at the very least and unbecoming of the skipper but excusable (just) as he realised we threw away 2 hard fought points and the injury to Eduardo. Need a few players to stand up and be counted in the run in now or a poor 3rd could be beckoning!
