Well today was the day when Fabio had to choose his 23 to take to South Africa and the list below say's it all...

England's squad for the World Cup finals:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham).

Defenders: Stephen Warnock (Aston Villa), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Ledley King (Tottenham), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), James Milner (Aston Villa), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City).

Forwards: Peter Crouch (Tottenham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

So Mr Capello you were going to choose players who are playing for their clubs and in form !!

Cole, Wright-Phillips & Heskey all of who can't get in their own teams starting XI but yet you go with them and players like Leighton Baines, Scott Parker, Darren Bent & Tom Huddlestone who have had very good seasons all stay at home. Not to mention the several players who are already carrying injuries and Ledley King who only just manages to recover between PL games that are a week apart and you want him to be ready to play every 4/5 days in South Africa, we should get out of the group (just) but getting any further? I for one doubt it if Ferdinand, Gerrard, Barry or Rooney get a knock on a current injury we'll be fcuked !!

Well its out and what a fecking surprise...Heskey has pinched a spot and yet Walcott gets the heave-ho. Interesting to see ex. Leeds boy Milner in the mix!

On balance (and even as a spurs fan) I am with you. I am not sure the creativity and the legs are there, certainly not beyond group.......I dunno. Its not too bad but I keep feeling "Donkey Sanctuary"

quarter finals if we are lucky. Although we can't even beat japan without them scoring for us, getting out of the group stages maybe asking too much!

Can't get excited about this world cup, England football never ever fail to disappoint. Only the FA care about England, 90-odd League clubs (including the one I support) aren't bloody interested and until that changes we will continue to win fcuk all.

I'm far more exercised about who is going to open the bowling for England at The Gabba on Nov 25th.

Jamie Carragher, WTF were you thinking when you made yourself available for England again. Not kicked a ball during the whole qualifying campaign and now walks straight back into the squad again after one of his weakest seasons for his club.
Still, as Tricky says, can't really get too excited about World Cups any more. In years gone by the wall-chart would be up by now, and the timings of the matches noted so as to ensure I was there in front of the telly when England were playing.
Roll on the start of the Europa League qualifiers...:PDT_Xtremez_14::PDT_Xtremez_42:

Huddlestone was pretty unimpressive during the Mexico match so I'm not disappointed to see him not in.

Walcott, I'm surprised at.

I am looking forward to it all. Win or lose, it never fails to fire people up in the teabar next day.

Please though, Green in nets, James firmly on the bench...

No thanks. Hart in goal. Hes the best of the three AND hes in form. James shouldn`t even be there as hes got his head into getting the Pompey job.

Mind i think `form` has disappeared from Fabio`s Italian:English dictionary.

Hows about instead of bitching like little girls get behind the team eh? Ooooohh we won't get through the groups with Heskey playing, Joe Coles is unfit though, blah blah blah!! I'm fairly sure Capello has given it some thought like, its only his job. I hate Mackems but for the greater good of England if Bent got taken I would have given him all my support (*sicks up a bit*). It only happens every 4 years and its the time where we as English can all get behind a common cause and stand side by side in the pub. This year could be the one with a bit of discipline and luck. Being a Geordie and and Englishman I have yet to feel what its like to win anything, maybe next month...

Off Topic Not Finn? I quite liked the look of him at Lord's. Stuart Broad definitely, but I've mixed feelings about Jimmy Anderson. Definitely not Tim Bresnan though, and even though I'm a Nottinghamshire member I have to say that our Ryan isn't getting any younger. Off Topic

England will struggle in their group but just make it out, get beat in the quarter finals and then there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth - but by the time of the Community Shield nobody will give a flying fcuk.

Lets face it...Its an excuse for men to congregate 2-3 hours earlier than the game starts to power drink WB'er then watch, in the company of similar groups, a bunch of overpaid nancy-boys try to kick a ball into a net...whilst doing this one or two of them will receive near fatal blows from other players as their hand brushes his cheek or their flayling leg gets within inches of touching his shin...we will win some games and the after match booze up as all these separate drinking groups come together in a rarely seen demonstration of national pride and cohesion will be awesome, then we will lose one about two thirds the way through and there'll be some angst on the streets, the window of poundstretcher will get put through with a bin and everyone will blame whoever fluffed the penalty for about 2 months before looking forward to the Euro qualifiers and some more false hope...

Its the English footballing way...

Well, lets face it TT, even if you or I (or even my wife!) bowled the first ball of that match, it would be better than the opening delivery of the 2006/7 Ashes series!

Ferdinand out of World Cup, Dawson flies out to SA.

Is that a bad thing? Personally I think he's been on the slide for the last couple of years

England World Cup Squad

I know I shouldn't gloat on someones misfortune but took out a bet on gerrard being England captain for the first match @ 5/1. Result.

Although unfortunate it was through injury, I am personally glad RioF is out. I have always thought him to be a waster - not fit to wear the National shirt, never mind captain. Nope, never rated the guy, unless you wanted somebody to continually pass the ball sidewards or backwards (A+ for that). I'd have taken Prof Steven Hawkin instead.
Just glad Garreth Barry didn't fall down the steps getting off the bus and wreck his ankle!!!
7-1 Come on Argentina
Other than that I wish England well...

Drogba also doubtful with a fractured elbow, better amend my fantasy team. I reckon Ivory Coasts chances have just gone up in smoke

All together now sing "His name is Rio and he sits up in the stands".

Seriously it might be a blessing in disguise as he is no longer the commanding figure his ego once believed he was and as age catches up with him he collects more injuries.

Rio is about the same age now as when I met you TB. I considered you the knackered old veteran of AMS Nil back then lol, not quite as old as Mick Mead though. Christ, I'm a veteran myself now

Rio's out. But that brilliant centre half John Terry can rule the middle and control the defence!! Out by the quarter finals with the state of our back four. Glen Johnson any body?? Nuff said.
