Cheers FOMz, that took me back a few almost 40 years to when I was a wee Scaley living in MQ at Wattashame :PDT_Xtremez_30:

What's the saying.................

If it looks right, it flies right?

Wonder if tonka jockeys get the same satisfaction??

:raf:

PS Nice touch getting the wokkasaurus in there!

Excellent, especially the TP footage, showing hotstreak ignition of the mighty Avon and proper 'zobbits' with old school RAF 'taches!!!!

Nostalgia, a great thing!

say what you see if you see it say it.....

I think the Boscombe Down ... ok I know the Boscombe jet is in America and a few Goaters are daft enough to try and put it back in the air!!! most of the Yanks think its a Mig! Try looking up "AALO" or XS422 on Google.

The F53 at Gatwick Aviation Museum has a really low FI (the actual figure escapes me) and we also have two brand new engines for it - the eventual aim is to have an airworthy jet, obviously we have to get round the CAA who won't let the Lightning fly in the UK at the moment!

Monty do you know MJR then?... say hello from me and Mrs Maxvon for us

They're still a record breaker, aren't they? For rate of climb I believe.

Incorrect Rover, I think the records are spilt for versious time to altitude records between Russian modified Mig 25's and the P-45 (Stripped down SU-27), though an F-15 did nick some of them off the Russians for a while in the late 1970's.

Mainjafad I don't for one minute doubt your figures but for a piece of 50's technology the 14 tons of thunder was one hell of a machine. Gave the then new yank F16 a run for it's money on first encounter by all accounts. Achilles heel fuel consumption and lack of duration but awesome bit of kit against some of the stuff flying even now figures take some beating.
