It will all depend on your family situation:

Are you married, kids, etc etc. Are you going from/into SFQ? All relevant information if you want advice.

What has the world come to when someone comes on the goat and asks a question like that? Do you not have HR where you are?

Leave - 5 days relocation leave if you are moving from one base to another.

Finances.

Somewhat surprised in the three weeks since you last asked the same question, you have not read up on it.

Who takes the hit on the relocation leave, losing or receiving unit? I can't imagine this will be left for line managers to sort, neither unit will want to take the hit so hopefully there is a policy.

Just out of interest.......when did this 5 days relocation thing come into force? It used to be, leave on the Friday arrive on the Monday and sort your life out thereafter. Nice to see some things changing for the better though.

So you get 5 days leave, is it to be taken before or after your posting date?

Either/Or.

Recently my Cpl was posted and had her march out of MQ before her posting date, so she took her relocation leave the week before her posting date.

On the flip side, my SAC still has hers because her previous unit wouldnt let her take it before her posting date.

There has got to be some official policy on this, surely, why should the losing unit take the hit? Do I approve for the benefit of the other unit and run light? jack..probably, however, situations dictate. In the current climate, as the losing unit we end up being gapped too.
Can any shiney give us a clue if there is formal policy on this????.

Mountain out of a molehill??? Are you telling me that if he/she had requested leave for that period he/she wouldn't get it? (I mean that if he/she wasn't actually posted but had just requested leave). 'Cos that's what it equates to IMO, it's not as tho you've lost someone from that post for 4 months - in fact the maximum his/her post would be "missing" an incumbant would be 10 working days if both the outgoer and the incomer took their relocation leave at your unit.

If you ask me it's been a long time coming. Of course people need time off to sort out their lives when posted from unit to unit although I would suggest that if they are moving only short distances, for instance from somewhere like ISL to ISK, then maybe they don't need as much time off as moving from one end of the country to the other.

Oh if only it was so easy..You are absolutely correct, this is what should happen, it rarely does, certainly in my branch. I would always support annual leave, however, this is not, it is 5 days given to aid relocation...what end takes the hit for these 5 days? I take it by the silence of the shineys there is no policy on this and we make it up as we go along. I'll check with my HR on Tuesday (closed Monday) to see if the can shed any light.

Save yourself a day's wait and read up on it yourself on Monday - JSP760 is the Leave JSP.

Surely (and I have no idea at all of what it says the JSP) if someone is posted it would be fair to let the individual choose when they take the leave. Either before they are posted or afterwards, especially if they have new MQ's or a new house of their own to sort out.

I have never lived in pad so I dont know how far in advance you are allowed the keys to one at your new unit, but say they only get the keys the day before they are posted then surely the individual would appreciate the leave after their posting date to allow them time to unpack and get settled into their new home.

I would guess that because the date you get keys to new MQ can vary and because personal circumstances vary too. It would be difficult for there to be hard, fast rules on this.

For example one of my collegues had a qtr down in Pompy where both her and hubby were posted. She was posted so applied for new qtr. She was in post almost 4 weeks before her qtr was available. So you can understand why the Unit she was leaving would not want to take the hit on the 5 days.

There are so many differing variables in peoples circumstances that a one size fits all policy is difficult. However I dont agree with this discression malarky. It should either be a "yes you can have it" or "No you cannot" acros the board.

Ok, back to work and had a look. There is no hard and fast rule as to when it has to be taken, although the aim is obviously to take it either the week before or the week after a change of assignment.

In either case, the individual is hardly going to be productive, so it really shouldnt impact much on a section.
