Sven-Goran Eriksson has been told he will be sacked as Manchester City manager at the end of the season, BBC Sport understands.

City owner Thaksin Shinawatra told Eriksson he was "not the right man for the job" at a meeting on Sunday, a source close to the manager said.

Eriksson informed the players at training on Monday that he would be dismissed, provoking an angry response.

The Swede, who has two years left on his contract, says he will not resign.

Shinawatra has been unhappy with City's results since the turn of the year.

This has gripped my ***t big time, sven said that he would get Man City to the top 10 by the end of the season, and then look at ways to improve the team between seasons and look at ways to get us higher in the league.

He has been a good manager so far, yes we had a bad time since xmas but he has had his hands tied by the owner.

I am tempted to start a 10 downing st e-petition to keep sven!!

I must admit that I am surprised at it. When you consider the succession of managers that city have had, no one has had such an impact as Sven.
It takes time to get a team to the top, and sustain it.

Sounds to me like City are starting to suffer the same delusions of grandeur that Newcastle have, i.e. believing they have a god-given right to Champions League/UEFA Cup qualification. I'm no City fan, but Sven is easily their best manager in years and is leading them to their best Premiership finish in a long time.

IMHO the rot set in when we got rid of Tony Book for Mal Allison, heck that dates me.

It is amusing the collective groans from us City fans when Sven came in and now we want him to stay (I point to myself in that sentance as well).

Now moving on - who do we want instead?

I'm no fan of Sven, I think he is the architect of the malaise that has come over the national side. The problem I had with him was that if it's going well he would just sit back and let things run their course, fair enough really but when things took a turn for the worse such as the Brazil game in 2002 (which is when I first decided he should go) he does the same, absolutely nothing, he has no plan B if the wheels start to come off. This may be what has happened at city, but he is the best they have had for a while. He has stated he won't walk (true to form get the pay-off for the remaining 2 years) but on ITV teletext there are already fans expressing anger aat the news of Sven's impending demise and the fact that Allardyce or even McLaren may replace him. But for City fans bear in mind he is a players man, they all seem to like him (why shouldn't they he does as they wish) and anyone thinking of trying pastures new (Micah Richards) has now got a ready made excuse to walk if they don't like the new man or the owner. For football fans in general the warning is beware foreign owners with big bags of cash, they are not always the sugar daddies they seem, look at the strife at Anfield.

Hang on a f*cking minute, you can have a go at the Toon if you want, but at least we're an English club which is owned by an Englishman, managed by an Englishman and with more than just one or two Englishmen in the team. Unlike most f*cking "English" premiership sides...

... funny how the sh!tty media leave us alone now...

An absolute disaster would if he ****ed Jim Cassells the Accademy supremo and he left... there would be no shortage of Clubs after him and he would be a great loss. As for a replacement I'd love to get Scollari if we have to get someone new (and although everyone is saying Sven is going there is nothing official yet is there ? I could be wrong - I honestly dont know if there has. ). Have heard Mourrinhios name being mentioned but would be amazed if he would even think about the Owner interfering with his transfer and team selection policy. Whatever happens will always be very gratefull to Sven for this years double over Utd.

Slightly off topic - anyone going to the Friendly in Honk Kong end of the month against Juve ?

I heard on local radio this morning that the city players may refuse to go on the tour if Sven is fired.

Tonights M'chester Evening News says that Sven talked them out of a boycott - certainly hope so, always wanted to go to HK and this was a cracking excuse and weve already booked the flights ! Thanks for the info tho....

I hope they do boycott it, then Mr "IamaTw@tra" might just see that he has made a big fcuk up by getting rid of sven.

I agree pie.
There's no way anyone can turn around a club like MC in one season.
They got off to a good start, but then you need to keep on building.

Some of these people want to win the world in one season.
Can't be done.

As I said earlier, if I were a city fan I would be concerned about players using this situation as a reason to move from the club

I'm with you here old boy, the likes of Richards and Elano have shown they can play this year and may take the chance to jump for european football and a payrise.

...Manchester Evening News speculates that the Game against Liverpool could be Richard Dunns last game for City as he is very unhappy with ths situation... would be a disaster to lose the guy from the club. IF Sven is going to be got rid of ( and like the vast majority of City fans it wouldn't be my choice at all) then they need to get someone in now so he can start to calm the situation with players like Dunne, Hart, Richards, Elano and Petrov otherwise this will be a total shambles. The arrival of Scollari, and soon, may prove the owners intent to do great things (albeit in an inept and unpopular way) and help us keep the best young players... Please dont let Sam Alladyce hoodwink anyone and get the job either.

Sven getting the sack

Sven getting the sack

As there is still no news on Svens future, i have been surfing various forums (606) to name one and RUMOURS are rife that sven and grant are to swop jobs. these are just rumours at the moment. What do the rest of you city fans think. i think sven should stay and be given more time. the powers at be for city have been to quick to wield the axe on managers and haven't given them enough time to have any success. Anyone who gets us 2 wins over the scum and a decent finish in the premier league can't be that bad or can he???

Other city news and rumours can be found below.

http://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/Sport/Football/Premier+League/Manchester+City

lots of rumours that city will have £65million to spend over summer. who will get to spend it? frank should leave the football to the people who know and worry about his own problems back in Thailand.
