Thought I should join and say hello. The names Mike Fowen, I got the nickname Fangio at St Mawgan and that stuck for a good few years.
I joined in 1967 through RAF Halton 210 Entry "Sumpy" and proud of it.
Posted to St Mawgan on Shacks, then up to Kinloss and over to Lossie when it was still HMS Fulmar in 1972 in the Griffon Engine bay.
From there 1974, went to Gutersloh in the Gnome engine bay and 6 months on VAS.
From there back to Scampton on 35 Sqn, (a knackered back) and a few years in Eng records there. 1981, off to Shawbury, then on to Phantoms at Coningsby from 83 - 87, VC10s at Brize Norton for a year then off to Valley from 88 till endex in 1994 with a detachment to 1435Flt over Xmas 1989.
After leaving in 1994 I did what I always said I would, had a year off, grew a beard and bought a Ducati.
Joined a Double glazing firm in 1995 and stayed there until this year, I left after having a triple heart bypass last December and found I couldn't carry on with the ribcage not healing very well.
So here I am sort, of retired, with just my RAF pension coming in as an income. I enjoy shooting as my main hobby, have had my FAC for a few years and enjoy reloading my own ammo.
Happily married for the last 24 years, to Sally, ( not like the 1st 2 Ann & Ros).
Always happy to chat with old muckers and will now keep an eye out on this forum.
