Hi There,

Was hoping that anyone out there would know, how the RAF stands on ex-rankers applying for commissioning.

I did 8 years as a plumber, then left the service to go into higher education.

Perhaps because he wants some impartial perspectives. He says he is an ex-plumber, therefore he has some experience of AFCOs.

Prophaniti, we have a Flt Lt at my unit who did a few years as pond life in the Army before leaving to go to Uni. If you have what OASC are looking for then your previous service will not be held against you. Quite the opposite in my experience.

Currently at IOT, percentages of ex-rankers on each sqn (course/intake) varies, I'm currently on an ex-ranker heavy sqn - of the original 120 around 35-40 were ex rankers. Most intakes are a little lighter then that on ex-rankers but it gives you an idea. Certainly I would encourage you to apply. It can't do any harm.

I went through IOT with ex liney who did what you are trying to do. Came back in as Eng O. I'll try to get hold of them to find out if they hit any snags or any awkward questions.

Also am friends with an ex Army ranker who got out then went to Uni before joining the RAF as Admin Officer, will see if they encountered any probs.

It is possible, just go down the 'Was trying to better myself' line, worked for me :PDT_Xtremez_30:
