Hi there
Ive just joined this forum. It seems like a friendly place.

Anyway, Ive recently joined the RauxAF as a trainee gunner or possibly TG8 Force Protection. The only trades available at my base.

I was a regular supplier from 91 to 97, reaching the heady heights of substantive acting corporal(which wasnt bad considering their was a virtual freeze on SAC to Cpl promotions in Supply during that time)
Then in 97, Supply at my base(Boulmer) went civvy and I was being posted to TSW. Young family, house in Newcastle etc, I decided to take up the offer of joining Serco in my old post at Boulmer. Regretted it almost from day 1. Infact there is hardly a day gone by that I havent regretted coming out of the RAF.

I tried to get back in 6 months later, but I was too old apparently, and the trade was shrinking.

So now Ive joined the RauxAF. Doing basic training really brought it home to me how much I missed the life in the RAF.

I am now desperate to get back in full time. Thing is there doesnt seem to be any posts for auggie stackers anywhere. I had hoped that there would be one at Honington, where I did my Basic Training, but the post is being disestablished.
I would move anywhere in the country to get back in. Im 42 though, so no chance of joining the regs, so FTRS it would have to be, I guess.

If Supply as a trade is undermanned, then why wouldnt they have me back, even at my age?

any ideas?
 
Not sure why they wouldn't have you back mate as some of the young'uns today are feckin useless, hope you find somewhere that suits and enjoy your time with the Aux's

They won’t have you back because we are not down to the ‘’magic’’ 41000 figure of total RAF personnel yet!!!
Sh1t really but that’s the most probable answer..

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmm Hereford...Possibly the best camp in the UK. Probably not for those that did their GST there....but for those of us lucky to have sampled it (especially for the SC course) it was brilliant.

MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm SC course....Possibly the biggest waste of time course ever....but four weeks of exercising the liver andannoying the locals in Stickies. Nicking all the seats in the Kerry Arms, banging your head on the ceiling beams in the Spread Eagle, getting ****ed & going swimming in the leisure centre......sh4gging on the snooker tables upstairs in the Naafi.....spending £900 & having to get an advance of wages & then laughing when Mr Blewitt told me I was a disgrace spending that much (only spent LOA, Sep All & some of my bonus).....you're right LR...sweet memories indeed!!:PDT_Xtremez_28: :PDT_Xtremez_15:

Oh yeah....good luck trying TotalWar...I agree, Serco are sheeeite, I worked for them for 4 months before I got a better job, & it's £9000 more per year as well!!
 
There was definately Aux stackers at BZN about 4 years ago, I was on adults Supply FT with one..
 
What is this substansive acting Cpl, with freeze on promotiom at that time.
Did you get promoted and fail your GST,JMLC or whatever it is called or what?
Or were you just acting for a few weeks.

Thought auggie supply base was Benson.

If your Auggie base is just south of Scorch Corner, do they not have Stackers as part of their Station Augmentation Wing, I am sure they did in the past?

The bigggest problem you will find is that I think Auggie Stackers have to live within 50 miles (or less) of their base.

I tried the same thing when I joined the Auggies, and ended up joining one of the few Auggies Sqns that recruit outside their local area, unfortunately they are either Spook or Medical Sqns.

Supply at Boulmer was going civvy, so manpower was being reduced(people posted away etc) With 12 months to go, we had a WO, 2 Sgts, 5 Cpls. With 9 months to go we had WO, 2 sgts and 2 cpls. Then the cpls both got posted. so no cpls in Supply. I was made up to substantive acting cpl in SCAF.(wore the tapes and got paid) for 8 months or so.
Then the SCAF Sgt went on resettlement courses and terminal leave, so I sort of did his job aswell.
It was really just skeleton manning till SERCO took over. Then we found out what skeleton manning really was. My WO came out the RAF and was the Supply Manager, and then there were only two of us who were ex RAF. The useless civvys theyd kept on were supposed to be trained up, but they never were(I believe they still havent been, 10 years later), so 2 people on a rota doing duty supply on a SAR(D states every 5 minutes) and radar base, 'kin ridiculous. It seemed like I was never at home(no time off, you just did Duty supply after your full shift). And having to be the only person in priority cell, and routine cell during the day. All for 12K a year.............no wonder I left SERCO.

Also secretstacker: you are right, it is the base just south of Scotch Corner.
They did used to have a multitude of trades, but now you can only join as a Rock or Trade Group 8 Force protection. So I joined as a rock.
There are 2 auggie stackers left from the old days, but they just do all the same work at the TG8 FP people, with supply work once in a blue moon.

Thats about the best I could hope for at this base.
I really need to go full time. I am more than willing to move anywhere in the country to do it, and am really keen to be deployed overseas aswell.
Seems daft to me, that someone as keen as I am, wouldnt be allowed to join full time in some capacity.:PDT_Xtremez_25:
