I'm not sure if thre will be anyone on here who served in the Falklands war but i need a little help. My dad was in the war but he never received his campaign medal. He isn't sure if he is entitled to it. I have searched the MOD website and i cant find the exact dates for when your tour had to fall inbetween. My second point is that my dad has sinse retired from the RAF after completing 27 years service, if it transpires that he IS entitled to his medal can he still receive it? Now we see how many medal buffs there are in the woodwork lol

If I recall, there are 2 levels of compliance relating to the dates involved and the latitude crossed

Where did he serve and when, will dictate eligibility

If he did the requisite length of time to become eligible for the medal then Yes, he can claim it. I use my old man as an example: he was in the RN during the '60s and spent time in the Far East during the Malaysian communist uprisings (he was indirectly involved with this action whilst serving on HMS Chawton --> http://www.britains-smallwars.com/Borneo/Limbang.html). He left the RN in 1970 and never received a GSM for his time out in the Far East however 8 years ago he applied for and was awarded it.
Additionally about 2 years ago the Malaysian government decided to honour the British ex-servicemen, who had taken part in the campaign, with medals too; they got in contact with as many people as they could (with the M.O.D. and governments help I should think) and arranged medal presentations in various towns/cities through the UK.
