Falklands War Vets...

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Two of my friends wear the medal. Both won as members of the RFA. One still is while the other is now in the RAF Regt. Both now have huge 'racks' [of medals].

I know of an armourer WO who was there as a JT and got a MID....

I know a serving RAF SAR Master Aircrewman who, as a 17 year old Para, tabbed across the islands and fought on Longdon.

There's A WO TG4 who is still in (leaves service around Christmas time) who was there on Rapier.

Would that be the same WO who has a copy of the RAF drill manual that he reads every night before bed and shares his name with a train? If it is then it's a shame he is leaving the service. One of the best WO's I've ever had the pleasure to work for. A little "keen" at times but if you ever needed his help he would always give it to you 100%.

Mate of mine retires from the RM this week, he was there on day one.

No but I know of the man. A 'little keen' is perhaps the understatement of the decade!

I know of one FS (ex tg3 now 4) who was on T-259 from TSSU Wattisham in '82 as a JT. (Quarry radar)

Worked with a Gen Tech back in the late 80's who worked on that radar in mid 82 (Marconi S-259), It was one of their number that quoted that the radar was 1 ACC's, hence the reason they are recorded in the British order of battle (1ACC disbanded a couple of years before the war started, reformed in the mid 1990's). From what I was told by the Gen Tech, the S-259 was taken to Asi on the Atlantic Conveyor, and was the cross decked to another ship, before it was landed at San Carlos and set up at Ajax Bay (It may have been the one that then went to Mt Kent as the Threater reserve and then to PPQ, if it was, I've done a bit of work on it in the distance past).
