Hey all. Just out of interest I heard that once youre picked up for Cpl and have completed youre relevant courses at Halton , you can apply for commision with just 2 GCSE's at c or above. Can anyone tell me how true this is / anyone actually done it. If you can though I understand the likelyhood of you staying in the trade is extremely rare.

Close. As a Cpl you need 5 GCSEs at C or above, to include Maths and English. Sgts only need 2, which I think is Maths and Englsih. These are only guidelines, though, and if you have other qualifications and are serious about commissioning then you should speak to the AFCO in the first instance.

I was looking into it last year, as a Cpl, with JMLC/ TMT completed, its 3 GCSE's (or equivilant) to include Maths and English
 
I believe the official age limit is 42 for external candidates but for ex-rankers those above 42 are considered on a case by case basis.

Don,t bother. Following arrival of latest master race I am totally gobsmacked with what they can do to people at cranwell. I am all for folks trying to get on in life and even considered virture of crossing to dark side myself. However, a truely great guy i once knew as an SAC/Cpl has transformed himself into a prize penis in a matter of a few months. And as for his wife( also an ex Cpl) well she is walking around as if she is the CO's wife.

Have a word with yourself, get a decent job outside if you have the drive, or try the ROCKS as they don,t put up with that type of nonsense unless you can hack it.

It happens sometimes, but fortunately it is rare. Most of the officers I admire and respect have come from the ranks, and I have never understood how a Sqn JEngO can expect to get the most from his lads if the only time he got dirty was when his fountain pen leaked all over his exam paper. Sadly, it is virtually impossible to get to the highest ranks in the Air Force if you have spent any reasonable amount of time on the shop floor so we will always have college boys giving the orders.

How do I know how much you owe? You moved the debtors log when you hid all the GTRs......now go & get some work done!!!!!

Seriously though, if you are considering going for a commission (imho...a bad idea) you will need more than the requisite GCSE's, you'll have to have a very broad knowledge of what is going on in the world, and be able to back up any opinions you have on world events, knowledgably & accurately. I know there is a commissioning club on camp, get yourself down there, they'll be able to advise you far better than me.

Don't feel that you have to avoid the Beehive to avoid buying me a beer....I'll be here for the forseeable future...I will find you!!!!:PDT_Xtremez_30:
