Well for those who know me you would probably agree that the image of me in lycra getting sweaty on a bike is not a great one.

However, 2010 is the year of change and I intend to get myself fitter, enjoy my cycling and raise some cash for various charities along the journey.

My aim (cycling wise) at the moment is the Great North Bike Ride, a 55 mile ride down the Northumbrian Coast on August 29th.

For those who would like to donate for this event, please go to http://www.justgiving.com/fat-bloke-rides-a-bike and donate what you can.

I will keep updating this thread with how things are going on and any other events that I am going to throw myself at.

Thanks in advance.

Best of luck Fella.

Trying to get my ar5e in gear this year after having a year off for injury. Hope to do another 1/2 marathon this year....just don't tell my physio!:PDT_Xtremez_06:

Apart from the fact that I am now mentally scarred beyoned help due to that mental image, all the best for the ride.

By the way, gel saddles are the way forward for comfort!

HA!
I'm doing the same sort of thing - but I never thought of doing a charity bit with it.

I've conned my elder Bro into cycling across the Hadrians Wall Cycle Route (90+ miles) Bowness to Wallsend, with me in May.

Currently I'm trying to get my derriere into Saddle shape - or vice versa. And Lycra and Dayglo are definately not a good look, but feels strangely gooood!

How many days do you want to do it in? And do you want some company? I am thinking an E-goat charity push for this one.

We're planning a no-stress "Cafe Cycle" of about 25-ish miles a day - "four nights" in pubs (and age) being the main drives for us!

I think we could realistically do it in two or three days if pushed - But we (brothers) have a no competition rule.

For all the details go to:

(Hope the link works!)

Mind out for March 13th - Big event "Line of Light" across the wall's C-2-C width - means lots of tourists and [probably] little accomodation.

Thanks all for the donations so far. Still a long way to go to the target, training is going well, even in the garage on the turbo trainer.

:PDT_Xtremez_35:

Using the sufferfest videos (pm me if interested) for training, thoroughly recommend these for anyone using a bike indoors for training.

Update number 2:

Owing to the weather and road conditions I have treated myself to a new bike! If anyone knows of any sponsorship opportunities (inner tubes and cycling clothing for larger men!) then please give ma a shout.

Challenge number 2 has been announced - I will be dragging my sorry ar$e around the Northern Rock Cyclone B course (63 miles) in aid of the Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre. I am doing this to help a friend in my office whose young boy is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumour. Their family life has been hellish for the past 3 years as they struggle through operations, chemotherapy and the like. As you can see the CBTRC fund research into particularly aggresive cancers in children.

I have not set up a justgiving page yet but will do in the future. For further details in the meantime either PM me or contact me through rafmail: bou-sabm-a sqn ist 1.

I have a target figure I am looking to raise for various charities during the year, have promised to try and help several causes (E-Goat charities will get a split from challenge 3 - Coast to Coast Challenge, looking end of Sept for this one)

Bumpity bump.

Please look at the work that the Chris Lucas trust does and give generously if you can.

Thank you

Fat bloke on a bike!
