Found the site from my RAFA contacts.

Many, many years since I was in the mob - my caduceus were in brass and were a pig to keep clean – Brasso and old toothbrush time!

Can’t help but feel that life for those serving now is a lot less certain than it was, but no doubt there are also some pluses.

Best wishes to all!

Welcome:PDT_Xtremez_30:

The more medical staff on here the better, there are a few medical tradesmen and women around. You can usually spot us as we are the ones who appear to be the most intelligent, then again compared to Stewards, stackers and Coppers it aint difficult:PDT_Xtremez_14:

Enjoy

Mine were not brass but I did join up a long time ago! welcome

Thanks for the welcome.

My badges were issued in 1958 (MTE RAF Freckleton) and I still have them tucked away somewhere! Wonder when did the gilt ones appeared?

Every station I served on is long since closed.

For my part I was always grateful for the start the mob gave me in my career even if I didn’t appreciate it at the time.

Nursing registration came later for me 1963 and ’68 – SRN / RMN – both in the NHS.

From my limited understanding about nowadays, I think being an RAF Nurse would still be a good career choice. At least there is now the opportunity of a commission for males, something unheard of in my time.

Welcome and glad to see a real nurse joining for a change.

There is a small select bunch of RMNs on here.

I would imagine being a psychiatric nurse in the RAF is quite interesting, sort of like a CPN with a specialised caseload.

Mind you, at least two trades probably require one to be a little psychotic as an entry requirement. No, make that three, I had overlooked the old-school D.I.’s!

The RMNs are all CPNs (with the exception of a small number working "out of trade" and 3 based at TMW who are full time FN(RMN)) with a very varied case load. The community guys also complete weeks "on call" to fly when the Aeromed committment requires. This has been the case since the closure of DKPH in 04.

They are a wonderful bunch of people and are all completely sane, as I am sure Freudian Slip will agree.

Sorry – I really shouldn’t try humour! May have ended up scoring an own goal.

When I referred to trades with a psychotic streak I possibly had in mind those who wear white hats!

Now I know your mental health status has been confirmed as totally fruit loop

Don't worry OldMedic, my comment was also an attempt at humour.

Penfold, I don't know what you mean!!

Oh look at you boring medics trying to be funny. I'd stick to the stackers forum mate we have decent banter! :PDT_Xtremez_42::PDT_Xtremez_19:

Welcome to the goat mate from a happy supplier!
