the missus has just had a sprog and I remember when my SNEC had 1 about 18 months ago, he was allowed to work Monday to Thursday and have Friday off due to new flexible working hours for families with new kids. Ok I would expect to have to work from 8-6 to make up the 40 hours but does anyone know where i can get some good gen on this so I can bang it in straight away? cheers.

Are we bothering to actually wear a uniform these days or what!? Get yourself on shift and then ask for some flexi...........

Shift? what, we don't do shift work in the Air Farce do we??

Suggestion......maybe your SNEC was just a skiving fcuker.

Hopefully this whole Thread was just a wind-up and I will be able to sleep easy tonight.

I'm not aware of any flexible shift working arrangement enshrined in any MoD literature.
The only flexibility I have found in rosters, is the good nature of the roster writer, and shift swapping where necessary.
I am almost certain that no such has ever, or will ever, be put down in black and white.

As an aside, if you only have to do a 40 hour week, I would consider yourself fortunate.
As our shifts are 'generally' not of the 40 hour week variety, arranging to do your '40' hours in 4 days is not likely to get you very much apart from perhaps a raised eyebrow.

In short, unless someone can directly quote from a referrable source, the answer will be an emphatic No.

What value to the OP is "you've got it easy", "this is the Air Force, not the Fair Force" style comments? Lambast folk in this manner and people just wont ask questions and one more point of discussion and potential information sharing will have been lost.

I wrote a paper researching lone working to suit one of my guy's child care issues within the last 18 months. I can't remember reading any directive, and like r0jaws said, its unlikely in the military context.

All you can do is ask and see. Even if there were a directive, needs of the Service still takes primacy.

Regarding your SNEC, there may be more to his time off than you realise.

Do a search on the defence intranet at work for "flexible working" and see what pops up.

I'd guess you have to come to some mutually beneficial arrangement with your local management. :PDT_Xtremez_15:

Hang about you jumped up fcuking pr1ck!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I wanted any input about what system it should/shouldn't be then I would ask, I was just refering to what I have seen in the past and wondered if anyone had any info on it so do 1 in future. as a reference I am currently on a 4 on 4 off system but will be put onto days for the foreseeable future as I'm awaiting posting on promotion so my SNEC hasn't really done me any favours, this was just a way of working around things and I'm sure there is something in place for it upto the child being 6 months old, just like the missus having 6 months maternity leave.

There is definitely a policy on Flexible Working Patterns 'cos I've got a bloke at my place applying for it. I'm not in work for a couple of days, but I'll put a link on when I'm back in.

Blimey, so you only work 6 months of the year - and I'll bet you have leave on top of that - and you want even more time off. :S What has the world come to? :PDT_Xtremez_31:

ah nice 1 mate cheers, knew I'd get somewhere lol. I know time off and leave at 38 days a year, what's the service coming too with us young uns???

There used to be a DCI

There used to be a DCI

There used to be a DCI that used to provide guidance, I used it to have my toil formalised so that I could take the same day off each week to save a bit on the old child care (I was in a job with a lot of Toil at the time).

Basically, you should be doing the same amount of work as your colleagues, it's not just about the hours you do either, whilst you should have your circumstances considered your benefit should not be to anothers detriment. If you compromise, offer something back then your case should be looked at favourably.

They could say no, but had to tell you why.

Speaking as a jumped up pr1ck!!! I stand by my initial comment and would go even further and suggest that your attitude is half the reason the Air Force is in the state it is. Other than the fact you have one of the best shift patterns I have seen, can you imagine the problems of having ‘potentially’ half your section, entitled, and eager to claim their flexible working hours?

Take, take, take. I am not saying you are wrong to claim if you are entitled to it, more that I fail to see how we can be an effective and adaptable Force with all these namby pamby concessions.

Further. Now I realise this thread is not a wind-up, I just hope the answer to the question is an emphatic NO. Otherwise it is just another nail in the coffin of RAF effectiveness and a hurdle to the already overstretched middle management.

well I'm sorry that there is a system in place that doesn't satisfy you, saying that maybe your a 'jaffa' and are coming across as bitter when service guys are benifiting on the family side of things? who knows

delboy if you have access to the defence intranet check out 2005DIN02-12 "Guidelines for Managing Non-Standard Working Hours for Members of the Armed Forces".

Getting back on track………..It may have been helpful to give all the information if you wanted a comprehensive answer. I take it (from your previous threads) that you have not decided to get married within the last 4 weeks and so should have stated that you are single and indeed living in the block. This may effect the interpretation of the rules considerably.

Not a 'Jaffa' (yet, as you could have found out from a previous thread I started) in fact I chose the more traditional route of marriage then children, but certainly missed the boat with respect to flexible shifts. Come to think of it I didn't even get a sniff of 'Paternity Leave'.

Noted from your previous posts delboy, your GBH conviction, custodial sentence, children out of wedlock, co-habiting SFA with girlfriend and illegitimate child (but seeking posting to Lincoln (?)) and your request for any links to the ‘legal beagles’ with respect to postings……………….Thank fcuk my only dealings with you are on the goat!

cheers for the gen guys, I'll look into and get something sorted. Just a shame some threads are hijacked by the minority who see fit to take topics way off track and have no positive input, anyways thanks again.

When you do get the pukka, be sure to let us know for those that search for an answer in the future.
