The troubles of the Mighty Accrington Stanley are well documented and now Southend Utd are in a spot of bother. Chester City are in real danger of getting booted out of the conference they have just dropped into. The papers are speculating about Liverpool having to hold a fire sale at the end of the season. Mike Ashley can't find anybody to buy Newcastle even at cut price. North of the border Rangers are struggling cash wise. If a small club like Southend or Stanley goes under like Newport County did then the football world will hardly notice. But what if it's big name Liverpool, Rangers, Newcastle for example? Is it time for football to have a reality check? Cautionary tale from across the pond. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the super bowl in 2003, in American eyes that makes them world champions. They are now one of the worst teams in the league not having won a game this season, There is no investment in players, they operate $20M INSIDE the league salary cap yet ticket prices are hiked up year on year. There are hugh debts to be paid of by the buccaneer owners so tickets go up and spending on players goes down. Won't happen here will it.

I have not been to a match in years as I refuse to pay ridiculous gate prices to fund the next ferrari of one of the many prima donnas who currently kick a pigs bladder round a field for a weekly wage that is 5/6/7 etc the annual national average.

Quite frankly, thank fcuk for that.

Most over-rated form of entertainment since American wrestling and only half as convincing.

Oi, easy! I'll have you know that Newport County are top of the (Blue Square Premier South) League at the moment. We're on our way back - C'mon the Port! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

But I reckon that the football bubble will burst. Just as the housing bubble, and then the financial crash last year, its hard to see that football will be immune especially when it loses it appeal among the prawn cocktail brigade.

Hear hear, when it all comes crashing down, maybe they will remember footballs working class heritage.

No end of people have simply been priced out of going to see their side play.

:SSorry 3SA I know what it's like to have your club drop out of the national picture and only feature on the inner, inner, pages of the sunday results section. Nice to see them on the way back.

I agree this football bubble has to go pop at some stage. With telephone number salaries and turnovers it is not a sustainable business model in my view. Not many clubs are in the black or even close. If all the debts at all the clubs were called in to be paid in full by 1st Jan the game would simply collapse.

It is reputed that the SFA will never let the 'Gers go to the wall, even though it is owned and run by the Banks right now, whicis a terrible shame.

We need one big club in the EPA to get toasted for the penny to drop with the rest. My guess is Liverpool to be the sacrificial lamb (though in my heart I wish it was MU - just like everyone else).

Could be a race between Hick/Gillet and the Glazers to see which group of uninterested Americans can ruin a big name premier league club the fastest.

On Talk Sport this morning they were discussing the fact that Man Utd are far from safe as the yanks seem to have gobbled most of the Cheatonaldo transfer fee to pay the massive interest on their loans.
A eurpopean league is not far away I think that is way the greedy barstewards can fund it.

When football does implode watch as the clubs & owners try to woo the dissaffected fans back, but by then it will be too late. But on the up side any club that has operated within its means will likely benefit from a shift in the financial balance of power, which will be a refreshing change!:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Tb - what on Earth do you mean by Newcastle being a "big club"? The last time they won anything of note was the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (now UEFA Cup) in 1969, prior to that was the FA Cup in 1955. The only thing big about the bar-codes is their ego and their chairman who is a "big" hero at Sunderland I may add.

As for your post - I have to agree with you that their is a big danger of a Premiership club going bust, Portsmouth, West Ham and Liverpool spring to mind although I must admit I do have a soft spot for the Mersey Reds so I hope they pull through. However, what would Chelsea do if Roman Arkadyevich Abramovich upped and did a runner back to Russia, they would implode over night.

Ref newcastle, Capt as a fervent mackem I would expect nothing less but they are very well supported and have a crowd levels and therefore income way above their league position. Agree about the mersey reds, and also ditto chelsea once Abromavich gets bored with his toy then they are in the poo. PS wanna buy Rangers??
