hi my name is Ady, i dreamt of joining up in the RAF and took myself to the recruitment office in Lincoln only to be turned down because i'm deaf. My dream was distroyed, nothing could mean more to me than to fight side by side with fellow natives of our country in battle.
However, since finding out that i would be a hinderance to my fellow comrades in battle, i have made peace in an alternative lifestyle whereby i took up rugby for the comradery and earned my bread and butter through the construction industry.
However, at peace as i may be, i recently discovered from some of my friends in the forces that they are entitled to something called 'Forces discount'. This raises the question 'Am i allowed entitlment to such discounts and if not then i must be allowed something in the nature of discrimination of not being allowed entitlment'.
I feel that i am a native to the island we live on and would literally stand for the word 'native' and fight for the land we live on. I might not be in 'the forces' but to me there is something not quite 'Just' and that everyone should be entitled to forces discount providing they were willing to fight for their country.
Many moons ago people who were less able to fight were given meaneal tasks such as fetching and carrying ammunition. Even further back there were 'finishers'. These guys didn't get discounts and still fought their cause.
Any ideas?

Of course you should be allowed Forces discount - if you've served in the Forces. If not then no. But to be honest mate you're not missing much as the discounts tend to be on stuff you'd never use. It's not a discount on everything you know, just certain things and in 15 years I never saw anything I wanted even WITH a minute discount.

50% off at dominoes, they make up for it by charging a feckin' fortune for everything. The discount is, as said above, pretty useless as anything you would buy with it tends to be overpriced anyway.

Brilliantly put. I've never used it either. I joined up thinking it would save me wads of cash but in reality it's not really that good.
I'm sure there are people who have used it and will vouch for how wonderful it is, but personally mate I think you are not missing out on much at all.

Sounds like a fishing trip to me
Complain you don't get the same discounts as students OAP's, and benefit claimers,
that holds about the same relevance as you being discriminated against by our Forces discounts.

Pardon?............................

Meanial tasks? Things haven't changed that much mate, we still have armourers :D

What's all this about natives as well? Maybe I'm thinking of something else!

I'm going to claim discrimination against the Westminster crowd because I once wanted to be an MP and therefore think I should have access to the subsidised facilities, unbelievable expense claims and a seat on that gravy train.

Forgive me for saying this, but your post really doesn't make a lot of sense.

You applied to join the RAF and you were unsuccessful as a result of your medical condition. Had you got in, undertaken the training and been successful then there would have been no problem getting a Forces discount where applicable. But as a civvie you have a potential to earn a lot more than someone in the Forces - so why do you need the discount?
I can't see willingness to "fight for your country" as you put it as a worthwhile reason for granting Forces Discount to you - based on that anyone who has ever played Call of Duty would probably want to Forces Discount as well....

If Ady invests in a basic English language course, I will send him 10% in lieu of a Forces discount, before our spelling Nazis' see his post.

PS What a neat log-in name.

OP - If you want an "Exclusive" Forces Discount on www.cottages4u.co.uk, then be my guest. Personally I have registered with the civvy East Coast Trains website and got a 12% discount.

In this case, I feel so much more valued as a train traveller than I ever would as a serviceman fighting for my nation.

The forces discount over here compared to the USA, is a token effort joke. See the thread on British Airways giving discounts to the US military but not us.

The only discount I use is the HM Forces rail card.

Is there any chance you could type that in Braille because I don't see what you are getting at::D::PDT_Xtremez_18:

I've never got Forces Discount through the "official" scheme.

The only time I tried was for Airport Parking. Tried once through the military site and once "normally". The military price was more than the normal price! I kid you not.

For some reason, I didn't feel inclined to try for military discount again.

I wanted to be a rock star when I was a teenager, where do I collect the groupies I'm entitled to?
