Anyone know how much these bad boys costs these days and also how long does it take to get one?

They used to be really cheap (about £2.50) but have now shot up in price to about £20 I believe. Worth having if your going to be doing a bit of rail travel over long distances.

£20 from your next wage packet, get them straight away from your PSF. Fill in a form, bring a passport type pic (doesn't have to be in uniform any more) and job's a good un.

you've got to pay for one? Used to be free when i joined (even tne photo was a copy of your id card picture!)

I think you still get warrants when you first join up but they start to reduce as you serve more time...Its like as your family wherever they are get older the MOD think they need visiting less! Of course the exact opposite is true in many cases but what do we know eh? I once cornered an AOC at a 'AOC meets station personnel' lunch that I invited myself to...I'd just come off 3 consecutive days of SAR duty...3 days because we were so strapped for manpower...so I was feeling feisty enough to tie him up for a full half hour as I explained a really simple method of allotting warrants to those who needed them whilst the people who were based next to their family and friends got none (as they shouldn't need them)...He sounded really interested and of course gave it a thourough ignoring as those sort of things are there to give us the impression they actually give a feck...

The rail card went up in about 06/07 to a tenner then the following year to 20 quid...to be honest you still save enough moeny to justify the price if you use it about twice and book the ticket online early enough...

Let me guess, you don't get free travel warrants anymore.......

Erm no mate it's been a long time since I was entitled to them I'm just off to London for the weekend and wondered if it was worth purchasing one. I realise now that it's not.

It gets you money off on the tube as long as you buy your ticket after 1000 ie not in peak times...not sure if the weekend is included in that offer but if it is its another saving...

I think we used to get 3 free travel warrants a year, or if you drove you could claim the mileage. I can't say I ever took advantage of them, mostly my trade was either on embarkation leave or disembarkation leave, with very little time in between.
