Is it actually 'PC madness'?

Women in the RN wear trousers as part of their uniform on parade and have done for a long time. I've never worn a skirt to work or on parade, (that's Vim's thing) but I would assume trousers would be warmer, especially at colder times of the year... and I"m pretty sure it's called Uniform which means 'remaining the same in all cases and at all times; unchanging in form or character.'..

According to the article...

".. the move has infuriated many servicewomen". Really?

"One said: “We’ve all been told woman can no longer wear skirts on parade". Shouldn't that be "women"?

“Everyone’s livid". Bet they aren't

“We’ve been wearing skirts since World War II". Which was over 72 years ago

“It feels like political correctness". Looks like another step towards equality for me - same standard of dress

“The world’s going mad.” Yes....making everyone wear trousers.....when will the insanity end??

I think it should be inclusion on assessment of ar$e size...Some of the larger derrieres are more camouflaged by a skirt imo.

Awe what a shame for voyeur of the shapely calf spotters:PDT_Xtremez_17: But still progress is progress considering the forces allowing LGBTTQ+ LimpDems, would baggy trousers or Afghan full burkas be useful alternative:PDT_Xtremez_29:.

The thing is, females haven't worn skirts on Parade in years...

When I went through Halton in July 96 I'm fairly sure that the ladies were in skirts (but I'm happy to be corrected).

When I returned to RTS in '08 as a DI the ladies all wore trousers for the Grad Parades, and AFAIK, still do.

The reason being, it is impossible to 'ground arms' in a skirt. Likewise, when carrying out foot drill, you can't raise your thigh parallel to the ground (as per AP 818) to carry out foot drill movements correctly when wearing a skirt without flashing your stocking tops.

So it’s not about being PC at all, it’s simply so that a body of uniformed personnel can correctly carry out drill movements IAW AP818 Drill and Ceremonial Standards for the Royal Air Force.

Hope the current day standards have not fallen to the first two photos in the article.

1 Hopelessly out of step - arms all over the place (what happened to the DI's "w**k a donkey" maxim!)

2 Obviously the nav does not have a batman anymore - shoes like that for No 1's ???????? where has the polish gone?

True "Ban" is such a strong word. Maybe Amendment to AP on dress code or Supplement to AP on dress code. In light of acceptance LGBTTQ+ LimpDems within RAF personnel, dress code standard shall reflect an update or adaption to requirements concerning inclusiveness within the services. Operation "Hello Ducky", a Royal Naval exercise have hi-lighted, a concern over the standards of dress code to regards of saluting or locally known as the "Teapot Salute" while wearing a 1935 ballgowns.
In light of the report Army command at 123 Tap a Tap HQ noted variations could be an option to their paratroop usage in the field. Option 1 Paratroops can wear makeup and high heels after landing from a jump to form Entertainment Dance Regiment. Option 2 Paratroops tab march can introduce 123 kick on battle terrain ground or Tap a Tap while street march.
A debate with the RAF Regiment "Rockape Leftfoot" publication to query nail polish colours when manning field guns on airfields seem to cause some confusion over funding issues. But Admin have agreed on local stations, feel if funding via in house for LPOs from Harvy Niks outlets, can suffice until a regular ordering can be sourced from main producer.

Girls haven't been able to wear skirts on arms parades but they have on any other parade - every parade I've been on since 1 trousers were issued we've worn skirts. Most females prefer to wear them and those I've spoken to are quite gutted we're to be forced into trousers.

Having recently left a phase 1 & 2 training environment I used to hear the new recruits being asked what we could do to improve recruitment and many of them would comment that even with the current recruitment videos they didn't realise many of the trades which were available, the girls would at times comment they always thought it was a very male dominated environment. Surely it's then a good thing to show this isn't true? Jokes aside there are some bloody good wrafs in the RAF. Isn't it better to embrace those girls who want to join and still be 'girly' and can still be exceptional in their chosen trades.
