Could someone please help me, a Chief Clerk or something like that. What exactly is the score with Functional Skills? The GETC website, nor someone I spoke to at the FDL in Cosford didn't help my search. Where I work (Tri-service - Army led) we are being told they either need passing or the equivalent qualifications adding to your JPA competencies. I've looked at AP3376 Vol1 Pt 1 Apr 13 Ed 4 & JSP 898 Pt4 Ch1 which states only people who are being promoted to Substantive Cpl or Sgt wef 1 Sep 12 need these competencies. Could someone in the know please advise me (with the correct AP or whatever) so i can re-educate the CoC with the correct procedure for the RAF (our clerk isn't sure either). I'm and old duffer of 21+yrs and don't have the necessary qualifications so would need/happy to attend this training if needed, but i'd like it in black & white as to what is RAF policy, not Army doctrine!

Thanks in advance.

A quick google search revealed the following: In line with the Armed Forces Literacy and Numeracy Policy, by September 2012 all literacy and numeracy provision undertaken by Service personnel must lead to Functional Skills qualifications, replacing Key Skills and Basic Skills awards (at all levels). Functional Skills provision will be adapted to the literacy and numeracy profile of the tasks and roles that personnel are expected to carry out. Learners will be able to improve their skills at a pace and time that meets the needs of each Service and in a form that best prepares them for future training and the next stage of their career http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...FdJDZVvkB1Hipie2w&sig2=10tebnNs58HTz7OxbsU0gg

That's Army development, not RAF
