Today I have been informed by my Chief Clark that my application from 12 to 15 years service has been suspended by Manning!!! I hold the rank of Corporal and am still acting, not substantive. This is due to manning cancelling numerous Trade Management courses and Deployments hindering my opportunity to be substantive. My 12 year service is almost up and thought of signing on to 15 as I haven't had the 22 year service offered due to my previous explanation. I am due to go on yet another Deployment and have very limited time to gain substantive status...... It seems that MOD is tightening the belt now! I can't think which leg to stand on to sort this mess! Is there a definite 'freeze' on further service??

It sounds to me like you have been right royally fisted!
You should not be deploying unless you have been substansively promoted. This has pension issues as well as benefits issues should you get injured. I would seek further professional advice if I were you.

How does this work if you deploy in an acting rank? Genuine question BTW.

Yes it does sound as though I have been royally shafted. The professional advice taken, was to take re settlement asap airing on the side of caution. I may sound sad, but I actually want to keep my job in the RAF and have some sort of career. It beggers belief how much this government can shaft not only troops but ALL public sector. I was told I could deploy to Herrick with my unit as a non substansive cpl but a chief clark did raise those issues mentioned in this thread. It actually almost came to a point where I wouldnt deploy....but low and behold, "lets bend the rules" and waive this particular deployment.

You haven't said how long you've been A/Cpl nor how long you have left of your 12 year engagement except to say it's almost up. Also, you haven't made clear whether you have had JMLC/TMT dates deferred because of the deployments you have undertaken. Without that info it's difficult to give any meaningful advice.

I assume from your posts that the deployments you have undertaken recently are Formed Unit affairs, is that right? Your bosses will know the importance of you getting promoted substantively and they will need to have a watertight reason to prevent you from doing so.

I suggest you speak again to the Chf Clk and explain your worries. I would expect him to support you in doing what you need for your future career.

There is not a freeze on further service for personnel who have completed the promotion courses (I received an offer of 22yrs for a Cpl today), but extensions from 9-12 and 12-15 seem to be very few and far between. I have 6 personnel waiting on the outcome of those, and they've been with manning since May.

If you have proof that your promotion courses have been cancelled by manning and not at your request then I would suggest you start dropping the phrase "sue your ass". Potentially you could claim for loss of earnings up to age 55!

You have been promoted within your current engagement. If you had insufficient time left you wouldnt have been promoted, so manning obviously thought you were promotable and retainable. If they (or your section) have cancelled your courses, then that is akin to constructive dismissal.

Dont let it drop - good luck!

Have been A/cpl for over 2 years. On formed Unit that required high Op tempo. Manning cancelling courses via JPA for no explination and actually conacted me asking if I wanted to complete my TMT courses soon? I then mentioned that some of the cancellations were done for no reason? They said, and I quote "have we?" The faint noise of me banging my head could be heard at this point. Got some dates secured but not till 2011! Leaving me less than a year left on my 12 year engagement. So I thought signing on to 15 would give me some time to sort this mess. I also had an inclin that the government would be looking at troop levels post election.

You can deploy into a post one rank up but you will be payed out as the substansive rank you hold, god forbid anything nasty should happen.

If you ask the pensions people, and indeed look at the pensions website,NOT HR staff, then you'll see that if you have been in the rank of acting AND paid for 2yrs you will get that ranks pension.HR staff seem to feed you the line of 'if you aint substansive you aint getting that pension',which is baloney.I speak from personal experience on this, after much searching.cup of corrrfeee

I am absolutely stunned at the way you have been treated. If you have been promoted some time back and have yet to complete your CMT courses then you need to be asking questions. You shouldn't need to extend from 12 to 15 yrs in order for you to complete your CMT courses.

If you had been released from the PSL very close to your EED you would have been given a 'DUAL' offer, which would have given you time to complete the respective CMT courses.

In the past year 3 lads have come to see me, all who had not completed their CMT courses but due to various medical reasons were due to leave. I fought tooth and nail with Manning, to get them an extension of service, which allowed them all to get upgraded, complete their CMT and, consequently, all were offered further service. So an extension to your EED is a possiblilty.

Spk with your Flt Cdr and get him/her to speak with the Chf Clk. The Chf Clk needs to ask Manning why you have failed to complete your CMT courses before your EED.

FFS mate this your career, don't let some shoddy Chf Clk just fob you off. Any problems then PM me.

If it helps, Bubblebutt is quite right. 2 yrs of Paid Acting rank will give you that rank's pension, all be it you will be discharged at your substantive rank.

Mate, I'm OOA and just been told I have had my 12 to 15 refused. But after speaking to several people who have looked into it, it seems that around the SDSR, nearly everyone was refused until the financial implications could be ratified.

Looking further I have been told to re-apply 6 months later after I get into my 2 year period and there is a very good chance I will be accepted. Sounds like some people are beginning to be signed on again but very much on a case by case basis. It probably won't be much consolidation but I have been advised to prepare for the worst, yet hold out for the best, so I have started looking into courses etc (they can't take them off you even if you do get signed on)

As I say, it's probably not much consolidation but good luck and keep plugging away!
