Hi i would like to ask the question dose anybody out there have any advice regarding changing pension scheme and signing on to the early Departure Point 18/40 The offer to transfer booklet recived back in 2006 top of page 29 quotes (if i transfer to AFPS 05 my length of engagement/commision is less than 18 years. Is anything been done about this?) answer ( yes. all 3 services have agreed that those who transfer to AFPS 05 will be able to extend in service so as to reach the EDP 18/40 point) i changed to afps 05 because of this statement and have recently been refused further service from 12 to 15 reason unknown as yet HR admin rang up and i was informed it was rejected. has any goaters out there any advice regarding further service and this offer to transfer statement?

Having put your question through an english translator, I think I have an answer:

will be able to extend in service so as to reach the EDP 18/40 point

Probably means that you will have the chance to sign on to 18 years as opposed to the old 22 years that you get offered as a newly promoted Cpl.

They aren't gonna sign everyone on to 18 years just so they can get a pension, it would be stupid..

Isn't the 18/40 point, 18 years for the pensions of officers and age 40 for airmen having completed 22 years service from the age of 18.

Nope, you have to have completed at least 18 years and be 40 or over to collect AFPS05 no matter what you do in the RAF. If you joined a wee bit later in life (age 22 or over) it can benefit you.

From the extract out of the Offer to Transer booklet any person changing to the AFPS 05 pension should be allowed to extend in service to reach the EDP 18/40 point, dose anybody know of any service person that has used this statement to extend in service? With things not looking good for the future in the raf, this broad statement and a earlier decsion to change pension could prove vital. I would be greatful if anybody from PMA or who has dealing's with the pension system could comment on been extended in service due to the new pension system bringing all 3 services into line.

If that's out of the booklet, there is one word which means it is not cut and dry that you will be offered. You should do, however everyone should be offered up to their 22 in old money to get a full pension. Not everyone does though do they?!

dierct qote from the Offer to Transfer booklet (if i transfer to AFPS 05 my length of engagement/commision is less than 18 years. Basically, what you're asking for Rigger is that everyone who opted for AFPS 05 to be signed on to 18/40.

I very much doubt that this is the intent and, to be frank, if you're not good enough to be given an extension to 15 years, I can't see you getting 18 just because of a dodgey translation of a badly framed Question which leaves the given answer open to ambiguity.

Is there more text to the question or is there a contextual framework in which is was asked?

Quite why they would offer a free extension to 18/40 is beyond me, progression past 15 is normally associated with attaining JNCO rank.

In fact, can you scan in the pages and post them up here?

From memory, I believe the signing on to 18/40 refered to officers that would normally have received an immediate pension when they had completed 16 years under AFPS 75.

Within 'the ranks' there is no offer of extension to 18 years as the current signing on to 22 years allows you the option of leaving at 18/40 should you wish.

Offers beyond 9 years are always subject to mannng requirements of The Service and there are no guarantees.

The offer to go beyond 15 years is based on attaining the rank of Cpl and nothing to do with the pension.

In the current climate, the easiest way of cutting numbers is by not extending contracts as it's far cheaper than redundancies.

AFPS 05 was introduced as a no-cost option. Enhancements to some are at the expense of others.

If you feel you were misled and can provide documentary evidence, there is a complaints procedure in place where the outcome could be a reversion to APFS 75.

will scan copy the pages from the Offer to Transfer booklet this weekend and post them up for all to see.

I think the very first statement was included to satisfy Officers on a pensionable engagement of 16 years.
