Hi there,

I heard a rumour the other day that the RAF may be looking to stop AT in the future.

Has anyone heard more info on this?

Many thanks.

For a newby you're asking a lot of rumour-based questions. Which paper/news organisation do you work for?

And you don't seem to have signed in at the Guardroom.

Well this is an unofficial rumour website and a lack of walking (and drinking) in Snowdonia won't exactly make it onto the front page.

Personally cannot see it being stopped as it's a core component of leadership and team building, something the military care about.

Thanks guys.

Not sure what you mean by signing in at the guard room but never mind.

Don't worry, I'm a serving Sgt at Lossie and passionate about AT with many quals in different areas.

I'm just considering future postings and had heard that AT may be getting cut back and it's an area I was hoping to get in to a bit more.

Many thanks.

Heard nothing except Stn Cdr's across the Air Force directing people get their a****s on it. Hope not!

If there is 1% truth in this its a huge mistake. I know not every one can get off all the tinme for it nor does everyone want to do it. There are some who also take the p1ss with it as well but the system is what it is.

However, AT on the whole gives a person a chance to get outside their comfort bubble and allows them to push themselves a little or a lot dependent on the activity. If they were under confident it can offer a boost, if they don't like operating as a team member (it happens out there!) too much it may teach them the values of doing that more often, it might give them a new hobby or interest, it almost certainly gains you a new buddy or two what with sharing some hardship or scary situation.

Its also a perk that civvy street doesn't have 99% of the time...and service people need some of those perks to offset the sh1t times and I for one hope this rumour gets squashed PDQ!

Thanks guys.

I take it all back, young sir, and welcome. You can see, though, that a loathsome, sneaky journo might try and run a "gosh, isn't RAF morale dreadful?" or "airmen expect to be sent on holiday at public expense" story.

You sign in at the guardroom by going to 'Forum', clicking on 'Arrivals' and saying a bit about yourself.

Before any anal OP tries to tell me I'm playing at modding, I think it's everybody's responsibility to keep their eyes open. Virtual Jaffa Cakes en route to our new friend.

Not usually an anal OP who would tell you this more an anal mod!

To the OP, I'd be in the same boat as you (fond of a lot of AT and would hate to see my quals go to waste). I doubt very much though there is much substance to the duty rumour though, there is so much focus on FD these days and getting pers to meet their annual quote that I'd be surprised if it was taken away.

Unless Ivory Towers HQ decide 'we' need more cuts and this would be the final straw for a lot of folks.
