Seeing as other no-marks have started work type threads on this forum I thought I would put my two penneth's worth in.

BFIS. Isn't it crap? I've just spent 4 hours trying to put dips in for 8 tanks and then it timed me out when I tried to do the F222...feck arse! :PDT_Xtremez_25:

I hate it. Bring back the paperwork days! :PDT_Xtremez_28:

BFIS is complete ****e.

It wouldn't be so bad if you had a direct Internet link but going through an IGS gateway slows it down to stupidly slow levels.

Oh and that numpty down at DFG doesn't have a clue what you're talking about half of the time when you phone him.

Couldn't agree more. I've been using it since 2004 and it's still as painfully slow and long winded today as it was back then. Trying to enter 40-50 aircraft issues a day onto the system just seems to take forever. It doesn't help either that only one person at a time can log onto the system at their unit, so if POL are logged on, ASMT can't do their issues because the server can only handle one at a time.

Like you say, bring back the paperwork.

Disagree,

BFIS is OK....no really I mean it.

Norman, I was the one who brought it online there down MPA in Oct '04...he he he.:PDT_Xtremez_14: . We had a few problems, but they got sorted after they increased the bandwidth on the RLI.

Granted, It may be a little bit of a nause at small units, but it makes doing monthly stats a breeze, and it cuts out the reams of paper (F458's, F4499's, F222's etc).

Also, you can pull off (phnaarf) any previous stats without having to delve through archives.

There are also plans to 'marry' it to Fuels Manager so that the Human Interface part of the input is automated. (we just need the RAF to catch up a little and move on from a Win2000 platform, BFIS being a web based Dbase riding on 2000 and the FM latest 7.1 version (the 1 we now have here) being on an XP platform)). (See it all coming to a unit near you sometime soon...probably?).

Mind you, all that aside, if you get flooded and your IS goes down, you're b*ggered and we have to all revert back to manual.:PDT_Xtremez_42:

See you soon when you're this way bound Norm.

(Blimey, I did some proper geeky speak there!!!)

Sorry mate,

I just don't know what came over me??

I'm having a nice bottle of Old Peculiar or 2 and now I also have no idea what I was on about?

See you soon when you're this way bound Norm.

As much as I would love to pop into Av Fuels and say hello to you and the South African antelope eater, I will however be heading to the nearest hotel and giving my very lucky wife (you know it Stax) the best 15 seconds of her life! :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Top Tip - You need the ZZ0018 Batch Upload Transfers & Issues spreadsheet.

Much easier. Isn't that right Dantura?

Does this make me a BFIS geek too? I hope so.

You're not wrong. You've earned your 'geek wings' there mate.

BTW, 15..???? how do you make it last that long???...impressive!

Ah Norman, you silver tongued devil you.

Thing is, I know both your Wives, lovely Women both and far too good for you pair!

Is this all automated now? (shows age) Miss the times driving around the base, dipping tanks and taking temps, totalling issues and receipts, checking meter readings and doing lots of calculations to ensure any variance was within accepted parameters.

Realising that something was wrong and having to start from scratch to find the fault and rectify. Many hours spent during early morning on duty POL doing this happy task. Also many times bouncing head off brick wall and getting bollocked for stuff being wrong.

Nice of the Engineers to eventually find that the BFI was subsiding in Aldergrove and getting an accurate dip was impossible.

The company I work for plus a few others have now pretty much fully automated BZN and partially some other units. They have our automatic tank gauges (far more accurate than the Mk1 eyeball), incl temp and water gauges and we are just putting in independent high level alarms. They have our SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) FuelsManager system, which controls everything and works out all your usual calculations..VCF etc.. We have automated the PRE process and nearly all regular use valves in all installations inc. valve pits. Basically, you now have a controller to open and shut the valves, turn on pumps and move fuel and operators to squirt into A/C. Takes away a whole load of human error and makes accounting for a very valuable product far easier and more accurate.

When did that happen? I did a couple of years in POL early noughties nothing like that was mentioned but saying that never had any problems doing my dips.

This would be bout 86/87. Can't remember exactly and I also cannot remember which tank it was exactly. The change was gradual but became pronounced after a while. Gave us a lot of grief (well the management did!) - don't know the final result as I was posted shortly after that.

The BFI was down by the 25m Range past the MT department.

Norman

Dantura and I spent hours trying to figure out how to use this system when it came on line many years ago. I can assure you the £30 we each got for our job aid is proof of this, the civvie that ripped off our good idea got about £300. It was wriiten in such a way that even a simpleton like yourself could read and follow the instructions, I think Dantura can confirm this.

Quit your moaning and get with the programme, its new technology and systems and if you dont like it come back here and use a F361D!

RTFQ! Check the original post date. I'm a BFIS God now and plagiarised and rewrote your guide. It's much better now and i won't claim £300 for it. :PDT_Xtremez_14::PDT_Xtremez_14:

Feck me, I reread this and realised how long ago Norman posted his original question. I also note you're still in Cyprus you old cnut, get back here and do some real work!!

Remember one of the bowsers in Yorkshire was holding about 5,000,000 litres at one point
