A little bit about me- I left the RAF a few years ago having become disillusioned with the backstabbing mentality of the many, one day your best mate the next slagging you off to a senior to make themselves look good. I always thought the word loyalty was overused as personally I don't believe it exists in the military. Let's face it, most if not all would drop their mates in it (covertly)if it would enhance their career prospects.
I did a law degree on leaving and the subsequent training contract followed. I am now a solicitor advocate that gives me the privileges to appear in Crown Court. I specialize in criminal advocacy and have won a few, unfortunately I have lost a few too. The legal system like the RAF is not perfect, I have seen innocent people go down based on poor representation alone. I hope I never get to the stage where by I allow this to happen to my clients.
I look forward to contributing to this site, I can't promise insightful debate but I will give it a go.

Hey Lawman...no doubt you will enjoy plenty of pro-bono counselling here! (I got that off Law and Order SVU by the way)

Are you general of do you specialise?

If you are what you say then welcome to the goat. Of course, you must understand that we are a slightly sceptical and untrusting bunch until we are sure someone isn't some Journo on their next attempt at a Pulitzer prize so expect incoming.

What trade / branch were you employed in?

Welcome to the goat Lawman, but just to check, you left the RAF because you didn't like backstabbing and you became a Lawyer?????

Thank you for the welcome.
Stevenics-Pro-bono! wash your mouth out, I have a kid and a budgie to feed. Seriously, I will try to add to any debates I can. My specialist areas are criminal and prison law.
Spearmint- Glad to see the cynical nature of the RAF is still there but looking through some posts I understand. Ex Med.
Lovetoad- Yes you are correct. The difference is, you rarely have to be subservient, you get out of it what you put in, work long hours=get paid more, and as long as there is legal precedence (often not) I will argue the toss with anyone, something you can't do in the RAF as it was all dependent on the rank. Still the same? Hopefully not.

Welcome to the Goat Mr Lawman, glad to see your grass is greeener. It's very satisfying earning for ability. I cut my forelock off many years ago.

Just as a matter of interest, I was listening to R4 a few months back and it was noted that the Solicitors didn't much like SAs going into crown courts and "punching above their weight", as it were...get much of that?

It's more dependent on trade/branch and that persons level of maturity/emotional intelligence. In the engineering world we can get away with questioning someone above us as long as we can fully justify ourselves appropriately. Some are unfortunately so far up their own arse they can see the back of their own teeth....
