Good Idea or.....?

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
I don't know how this sits with me really...Not regulars, not reservists but a new class of 'Service Person' who doesn't do the fitness test, doesn't do GDT, can do up to 180 days a year but is on a zero hour contract and I believe when they do turn in they get paid more than a real reserve? So they could work half a year without any of the high bars passed that others working shoulder to shoulder to them have to go through? If so why bother for the rest of you?

A NEW EMPLOYMENT TRIAL for ex-regular RAF personnel has seen its first intake being brought forward this month.

RAF Lossiemouth is piloting a new Base Support Group (BSG) scheme which was launched for a trial run in February this year and will run for at least two years.

The scheme offers former RAF men and women part-time employment as volunteer ex-Regular Reserves at participating bases, of which Moray base is one. Following the announcement of the scheme, RAF Lossiemouth received enquiries from nearly 130 personnel from throughout Scotland.

If this expands would anyone else go for this at the Southern bases?

What sort of rank structure will they have? will they all be LAC's / SAC's? or will some get NCO rank? how will that work if they do..a BSG NCO ordering about a regular airman?

This is exactly the same sort of scheme as the Local Service Air Women they had in the early 90's that lasted on a few years.

Nope. One of the main reasons that I'll be leaving the RAF on my 22 is that I'm sick and tired of East England - the nearest base to where I'll be settling down is RAF Valley, but it's too far a commute for a zero hour contract job.

I remember locally employed wrafs in the early 70s. Same thing possibly

Can't say I'm keen. Potentially we could have a wheezy, fat, pie eating, non war fighter, lard @rse who only works 6 months (roughly) and is hired on a zero hours contract. With the chance of being out of a job by lunchtime any day they turn up for work what commitment is the individual likely to have? I reckon the commitment to the cause will roughly equal the amount of hours in the contract.

Think maternity cover. Air shows. That type of thing. All the other **** that people don't want to do.

Knowing some of the people in that article as I do I think its going to be a bit more involved than that. I think it'll start off slow until people realise they can drag this lot out of the cupboard to cover just about anything.

Sounds like the ADC terms for reservists, nothing new and will be abused just like ADC is/was
