Morning all, I found out about this site via the studentrooms forum and thought it might be a good resource.

I've just finished my degree and shall soon be contacting my AFCO for my first meeting. I hope to become a weapons systems officer so any useful links/info you guys can provide would be great.

I was just wondering if you apply for one position i.e. WSO and fail the aptitude for that can you still progress in another direction (other than out the door!) by choosing a different trade? I don't like the sound of twiddling my thumbs for a year while I wait to reapply.

Also when I arrange a meeting with the AFCO is it best to go in a suit to make a good impression or is that a bit OTT?

thanks for your help, look forward to speaking to you :)

Don't do it! Get a proper job.:PDT_Xtremez_28:

Perhaps I should conquer some windmills instead....

Unfortunately I've already made my mind up about applying so theres no turning back now! I've been researching various forums and the careers websites of both the RAF and RN for a few months now to help narrow down my search so I have a fair idea of what to expect but the more information I can get the better.

Thanks for the welcomes.

Welcome.

Have a look through the recruiting forums, and if you can't find an answer to your question there, post and I am sure someone will know.

Wear a suit! A good impression always counts!

Make the best impression from the word go.

Don't pitch up in your Saturday Night Clubbing gear, as I've seen some do, don't come in without a smart haircut, be well presented.

Know why you want to join, in your own words, don't take words from the recruiting literature if you don't mean it.

Be honest at all points. Integrity is a serious issue.

If you get to OASC and you don't make the aptitude, have some backups prepared. The Boarding Officer will suggest some options to you anyway.

Take everything you're told on the chin and act accordingly, the AFCO is there to help you and the Boarders at OASC are painfully honest.

Oh, good luck and every success to you. OASC is hardwork, but a lot of fun at the same time.

Thanks, thats very helpful advice.

I'm looking forward to starting the application process now, it'll be interesting to see how I do!
