I've just found the E-Goat forum. I'm an ex-apprentice (Halton), now living and working in France. I look forward to reading the various threads and contributing from time to time (money and words).

Thanks! I've just been reading some of the very good SDSR threads, and it brings back memories of sitting in the teabars and crew rooms discussing what we (the RAF) considered should be the logical outcomes of earlier defence reviews (1990-91 and 1996). We were never "guessed" correctly, the politicians always had their way, and we ended up totally fcuked. Nothing changes.... It does seem a lot worse this time though. Oh hum..
 
Yup, left in '91 prior to the first redundancy round, we were discussing the changes following the cold war collapse. Never good waiting for the axe to fall. So I did one.
 
I was one of the "4 trade super mechs" as we were nicknamed in those days. I can see why we were resented by a lot of single trades at the time, mind you. It was good training all the same, and it has stood me in good stead for many a year!
