Joined in Dec 1982 as a Stacker - had wanted to be a Rigger and had past all the exams and had the qualifications but with a serious lack of jobs and a WO who wanted to fill his quota I bought the join up now and re-muster later on line.
Got investigated at Hereford for getting such high marks on Stacker course - 98% on average! Think they thought I was cheating!

Tried re-mustering twice and in spite of glowing reports from JENGO's on various Squadrons (I volunteered to learn in my own time) I was turned down twice. Finished my time and left disillusioned with the system and cheeky wee Erks coming through the system in 1989.

1982 - 1983 Basic Training Swinderby
1983 - 1983 Trade Training Hereford
1983 - 1984 SCAF Lossiemouth
1984 - 1986 237 OCU Lossiemouth
1986 - 1988 POL Aldergrove
1988 - 1989 POL Lossiemouth

Got turned down for Mount Pleasant as I only had 18 months service left after NI.

Had some great Detatchments - Leuchars, Laarbruch, Brize Norton, Akrotiri, Towyn (army base, they suck!)

Left RAF and went straight away to work for BAE in Tabuk Saudi Arabia. Actually met some old mates transiting through the base on their way east during Desert Shield. Refused to stay for Desert Storm as a civvie and became black listed by BAE after this.

Went to college to do Business MAanagement and met a recruiting Sergeant there who wanted to me to sign up again and go for a commission - by that time I had moved on and had a family so thanks but no thanks.

Now work as part of a small Web Development team suporting web sites and developing electronic solutions to old fashioned and traditional problems.

Miss the good times but you can keep the bad ones. Who needs an alcoholic boss with violent tendancies.
