Hi All,
Greetings from an old “Cold War Warrior”. I have been watching this forum for a while, and it has given me many hours of enjoyment and plenty of laughs. So I have decided to join in the fun, as it were, and will relate a little about myself, and my RAF service.
Joined in April 1975 as a DE A Fitt.P (yes one of those!!!), did my basic at Swinderby, Trade Training at Saint’s, in the hot summer of 1975 (Barry Island wonderful place!!). Spent all my time on the soon to be defunct Jag force, on Shiny (or ****ty depending on your disposition) 6, 41 Sqns & finally MCF (Engine Bay & Test Bed) at Colt, and a short while in APS at Abingdon, although I escaped pretty sharpish!! De-mobbed April 1987 as a Snec.
I have been amazed, and sometimes annoyed, at how much the RAF has changed in the 20 years since I left. I don’t honestly think I would sign up in today’s airforce , its too PC, pink and fluffy for my liking. That said, may I take this opportunity to wish those of you still serving, especially those in hot sandy places, God’s speed and a safe return to blighty.
